Vehicle Detail
1969 Ford Bronco All right Bronco fans and fans of cool.. Look at this! This is truly a one of a kind Bronco. This is a RUST FREE true survivor Bronco with the best patina ever. Yes, it has some rusty colored areas on the paint and other places, but there is NO CANCER ANYWHERE!! I hate to call it a “Rat Rod” but it sorta fits that idea. It has a new 302cu in V8 engine, 4WD, and a “3 on-the-tree” transmission. Those of you that follow my auctions know that I scour the West looking for only the vehicles that make me excited. Once I find one, they are never exactly what I want them to be… so I get busy making them so. I love 1960s Ford Broncos, but my tastes have become a bit eccentric. I loathe the scabbed together mutilated resto off-road projects.. Yuck. To be honest I’m not a huge fan of the restored ones either unless they are absolutely perfect and ironically then pretty much unusable. When I want a new vehicle I usually start with a vision of a vehicle that I can never seem to find. I always have to just make them. Once they are completed, they get used in film and photo shoots. I also get to use them too which is fantastic! Then they go to eBay where they find a home in some far off place… Or in some cases, a new home right in my own town. Here is the story of this really unique ride…My quest started, as it often times does, from a memory. In High School my Auto Shop teacher had a 1960s Bronco. I remember that he bought it “Brand New”. It seemed like an antique to us at the time because it looked stock and lacked all the crap that we thought looked so great. His was worn and tattered and well used. He refused to cut out his fenders or add power steering or dress it up at all. But under the hood he had a perfectly balanced and blueprinted 302 with just the exact right amount of everything. Mr. Pedroski was ahead of his time. He was understated. He turned every bolt himself and made an engine that was totally drivable daily and would still perform when he wanted it to. Performance is a fine line when contrasted with daily use. He nailed it. I have been haunted by the memory of that Bronco ever since. Finally I realized that I just had to have one just like his. I searched hard and finally found this one in the desert of New Mexico. It was a total barn find. Still wearing its original light blue paint with uncut rear fenders and without a speck of rust anywhere.. I knew it was the one! It was worn and perfectly weathered. The motor ran, but with a knock. All the plastic reflectors were deteriorating and the interior was missing all together. In other words it was perfect. I shipped it home and started dreaming. The first thing I did was wash and wax that perfect patina. The way the sun and time has weathered this paint is really cool. Mother nature’s love is evenly distributed inside and out. Next I ordered a crate engine. I believe that the 302cu V8 or (5.0) is one of Ford’s highest achievements in over a century of building vehicles. I was more than happy to start there. I next called Speed Sports in Milwaukie, OR to do the install and tuning. This is the performance shop that owns and races the Mustang that has won the Rose Cup in Portland for several years. They know more than a thing or two about Ford performance. Jason, the shop manager, recommended a mild cam and a 4 bbl intake and carb by Edelbrock along with some tuned exhaust. I stuck with the factory exhaust manifolds, but dressed up the look with Edelbrock valve covers and a chrome air filter. The Bronco also got a clutch kit and a long list of wires and pieces that don’t come with a crate engine. Putting an engine like this in an old hot rod is not a quick, easy, or cheap proposition anymore if it ever was. I didn’t stop there either.. I just had to have the new BF Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM2 tires! Plus bumpers and reflectors and the seats and a wood steering wheel and Jerry cans.. I just kept spending… but what I got is exactly what I wanted. My perfect Bronco. Perfect for me anyway. It runs and drives so well it still blows me away. Excellent power and sound matched with easy maintenance and drivability. The Bronco drives perfectly straight down the road at 70 mph with very little effort. It will also go just about any place off road too. No, it is not a rock crawler and I hope it never is. The truth is that these old Broncos are great off road even in stock dress. I hope those of you interested understand that this Bronco is not supposed to be perfect and beautiful in the classic definitions. Instead this Bronco is a unique classic beauty for the undefined adventurer. With all that being said, if you want to pretty this one back to factory new.. This is the best start. I do have the number matching engine and this was a factory V8 Bronco. Everything is available through Tom’s Bronco online so go to town. As always I am setting the reserve low on this auction and I fully expect the Bronco to sell the first go around. I will end the auction for the right cash offer but I only talk money over the phone. Call me if you want to know more, I know every detail of the Bronco and can answer any question you may have. Ask before you bid please! Also I like to cancel bids from zero and negative bidders unless I get a call or note first so please reach out to me so I know your intentions are pure of heart. Thanks and Happy Bidding!!
