1991 Mercedes Benz 300SLUp for auction today is a super nice well-loved 1991 300SL. There is one problem with the car and it is related to the operation of the soft top and its hydraulic mechanisms. The soft top is beautiful and maybe never used. Because of this the rams that control its operation leak fluid through a drain under the vehicle. They work properly, but within a total cycle.. (up and down) release about 3 ounces of fluid. If not captured and returned to the system, this will result in a puddle under the car. Yes it can be fixed but I am not going to take on the job. I want the buyer to be aware and willing to either fix it or deal with it or just use the hard top. When the hard top is taken on or off, there is no leaking. My mechanic is reluctant to take on the job because of his lack of experience in this area. He tells me the part is $300 and the book calls for 11 hours R&R. He found the car to be super fit mechanically otherwise. Dispite his reluctance to work on the top, he is highly regarded in my area. During his inspection of the vehicle he found that an oxygen sensor needed to be replaced along with a seal around the working power antenna. He also recomended a fluid flush and filter change. After performing these services I have driven the car often and it has no odd problems whatsoever. The car runs and drives very well. It runs and shifts flawlessly. There is no rattling over bumps or squeeks with the fittment of the top. There are NO warning lights iluminated on the dash. The little Mercedes is finished is Desert Sand and has Tan Leather and Carpets. The paint is bright and the leather is soft and supple. This little Mercedes is a rare find because of the 300 straight 6 cylinder engine. Most mechanics will agree that this is one of the best engines ever to be used in a Mercedes Benz. They are known to be powerful and economical at the same time. Not only are they economical in regard to the consumption of fuel, but also because ofthe limited services they require. The car comes with both the hard and soft tops and both are in excellent condition. The soft top looks as though it is either brand new, or has never been used at all. The plastic windows are haze free and the canvas fabric is free of any wear areas or fading. The car does not leak engine oil or smoke or do anything out of the ordinary. The stereo is an aftermarket Alpine and it also has a built in SS Radar Detector. The inside rearview mirror is also aftermarket. I am setting the reserve low and fully expect the car to sell. If you have serious interest in the car please call me and ask any questions you may have. I am available anytime. I cannot guarantee the miles of a car of this age but the car shows well and based on the vehicles condition seems reasonable. Also please understand that this car is over 20 years old. It is a fun, inexpensive Mercedes convertible and it is nice and very dependable. Is it new? NO! It is super clean and nice. Expect it to be loved by you and your family for fun weekend rides.
