Vehicle Detail
In 1957, the Corvette was built only as a roadster, and it would mark the last year for the highly desirable single headlight body style. This example has the 283-cubic inch powerplant featuring dual four-barrel carburetors that allow for 270 HP to be developed. Coupled with the rare 4 speed transmission (only 664 manufactured) allowed it tobe one of the fasted production cars of its time. With an imtimidating chrome grill and sexy styling it was then and still is today one of the most desirable cars on the road. This example is finshed in Black Onyx, with optional silver coves and a red interior. It has had a major frame off restoration less than 1000 miles ago (original miles pre-restoration are unknown) by Corvette specialists Classic Restorations in Michigan, and is, of course, in excellent condition. In adddition to the rare 4 speed transmission the car is equipted with factory15" wheels and chrome spinner caps with BF Goodrich wide whitewall tires. The only no- stock item is an aftermarket vintage Corvette AM/FM Corvette radio, however, the original Wonderbar Radio is included. This car was part of a major Corvette collection for over 15 years, kept in a climate controlled garage during those years. This is not the car for someone looking for a "bargin", however if you have the taste to appreciate it and the means to afford it, it is THE one to buy.On Sep-19-12 at 13:22:17 PDT, seller added the following information:I have been aasked by many if this is a "numbers matching" car. The answer is the concept doesn't exist for a 1957 as we think about it in later years cars, like a 1961 wher the last digits of the engine ID was the same as the VIN. For 1957 the only clue you would have of a motor not being correct is if the date code of the block showed a build date AFTER the car was built. This is not the case in this car. As far as I can tell, all the parts on this car are "period correct" The jack is in the truck, the jack tools are included. The hub caps are correct, the generator has not be exchanged for an alternator, no one installed aftermarket electronic ignition or any of the other common mods that destroy value. I have also been asked where my reserve is set. That is up to the bidding process to determine, HOWEVER, I will say that the reserve is set much closer to the current bid price than the "buy it now" price.
