Vehicle Detail

1968 Mercedes Benz 230 S On eBay today for your consideration is a super cool Mercedes 230 S. It is one of the very last fin-tails ever made. As a matter of fact, many of the enthusiasts and mechanics that have seen this car thought for sure it was a 1967 except for the headlights.. As the story goes… there were several cars left over from sales of the final run of this body style. People had waited to purchase until the “new” 1968 cars were released. So Mercedes just kept selling them, calling the last of the fin-tails 1968 cars until they were all gone.. But these cars had the new front headlights but still had the old tail fins. I can’t get a straight answer on exactly how many of these cars were made, but it wasn’t many. They released the new body style cars just after, in the 1968 model year. This particular car is rare for lots of other reasons too. First of all because its 45 years old and still a total survivor! Also, the color combo! I mean how cool is the red interior?!? The grey exterior is nice, but the interior is amazing. The interior is all original and super nice. The carpet is just like new. It was covered with rubber floor mats and is absolutely in perfect condition throughout the car. The bolster of the driver’s seat shows a little wear, but otherwise the interior is stunning. Again, the car is a survivor. It has not been restored. It could be used as it is as a fun cool car or it could be restored to perfection. It is a great candidate as there is ZERO RUST in the car. I purchased the Mercedes straight out of a barn in a little city at the base of Mt. St. Helens. It was dry and clean, but had not been used in a number of years. The battery was dead, the brakes were seized. The car was nice though. I had to have it. I was promised by the old farmer that it ran well when it was parked and I figured it did. These cars are known for being excellent vehicles and people swear by the durability of these engines. I may have taken a risk, but it was worth it. I towed it to my favorite local independent Mercedes mechanic and $800.00 later; I was driving it all over town and loving every second of it. The Benz was treated to new brakes and calipers, shift linkage bushings, and a complete tune and carb adjustment. It also received a brand new battery and a radiator cap. The car runs well. It does not leak anything or smoke at all. It shifts well through all gears and stops well. It is cold blooded. It takes a few minutes of idling before it is ready to be driven. The A/C compressor is not hooked up and I don’t know if it works. All the blinkers and lights work. The paint is fair but not show quality. It has some scuffs and touched up areas. The windshield has a few stars in it as well. The Mercedes was just used in an ad for a local clothing store and I am using some of the photos here too. The model however, is not part of the saleJ. I am setting the reserve low and fully expect the car to sell the first go around. Negative bidders please call or write me to express your intentions or your bid will be canceled. Also, please call me with any questions any of you out there have BEFORE bidding. I love to talk about this car! Justin 503-969-5127
