Vehicle Detail
1987 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Turbocharged Automatic; Burns Oil 2.4 L, 2366cc, SOHC, Gas, FI, AT, 4WD Tilt, power locks, A/C blows cold, Altimeter/Inclinometer works, electric rear window, power mirrors, CC, intermittent wipers, rear window defrost, factory roll-bar behind rear bench seat, electronically controlled 4 speed AT transmission (ECT) with OD and High/Low 4WD, IFS, rear drop hitch receiver, fold-down split rear seatbacks, adjustable headrests, tinted glass, good spare tire, undercarriage is sound; no damage or corrosion, etc. Here is a complete listing of 1987 Toyota 4Runner options and specifications: http://www.top4runners.com/runhist/runhist11987.html VIN: JT3RN67W5H0178654 Burns oils when you decelerate going downhill which indicates valve, valve guide, or oil ring issues, but otherwise very drivable; starts and runs great. It may only require head reconditioning, but while you're in there you may want to consider rebuilding the motor. This is mere conjecture, I am definitely not a mechanic. A few oil drips under engine after sitting a long time, but nothing unusual for a 1987 vehicle with 173,591 miles. Area under tranny and transaxle is dry. This FI vehicle is very sensitive to flooding so keep your foot off the pedal when you fire it up. I flooded it several times because I forgot I wasn’t starting my carbureted Toyota truck. I spoke with a mechanic who said oil burning could be turbo seals but this is just hearsay. It shifts sort of abruptly from 1st to 2nd gear but otherwise shifts smoothly. No slipping and 4WD works great. It hasn’t got a tremendous amount of torque, which is typical of these 4 cylinder Toyota beasts, but when the turbo kicks in it accelerates very rapidly and gives you a real rush. All original including paint except for cool chrome brush guard and tubular rear bumper. It has good tires with plenty of tread left: depth just about covers up Lincoln’s head and nose. Black exterior/grey cloth interior. The removable top has some corrosion on the right side trim which looks repairable. This is the only serious corrosion I can locate on vehicle. Paint has some deep hairline scratches and some minor body dings and the occasional barely noticeable surface rust spot here and there on the exterior which could be removed with a wire brush. This is not unusual in our damp Pacific NW climate. Having said that, you would want to address this ASAP with a repaint. No serious sheet metal damage; just parking lot dings. In fact, new owner could skip the metal straightening and just repaint it. What little chrome the vehicle has looks good. All door jambs are clean and free of rust. Front bumper slightly distorted from minor garage mishap. It does not look like top has ever been removed but cannot say for sure. Interior is nice with a few minor scuffs, scratches, and miniscule discolorations, small abrasion on driver’s seat and ding in roof about left rear seat. Also some cleanly cracked and repairable trim on each side below sliding side windows. Heat crack on dash next to altimeter. Basically it is in good shape for the year and ready for restoration or fix oil burning and drive. No signs of off-roading like undercarriage damage, high-centered marks on kick-panels, water damage, mud and branches, etc. Nice opportunity to get low mileage, two owner Turbo SR5 4runner that has not been modified or molested. Please see clean Vehicle History Report. Has original jack and tool kit. It has been sitting for awhile and will need a battery or at least a jump to get rolling. Everything works except battery, OD indicator light, power antenna, and engine burns oil. Nice new Kenwood KDC-MP345U iPod compatible 4 speaker sound system. New OEM combo switch turn signal assembly. Center arm rest has been professionally re-upholstered. I am second owner, bought this for a weekend project and for kids to drive but short on time and money.
