Vehicle Detail

1965 CONVERTIBLE FORD THUNDERBIRD Well if you liked the Tbird on the first auction here is your chance again. The person who purchased it evidently was in hot water with his wife and can't buy it so...... here we go again. His change of mind had nothing to do with the car or its condition (which he never even had a chance to look at) and all revolved around the fact that he loves his wife more than a dream car.... Anyway, on to the listing. To answer recent questions:Q: "What do I need to start it?" A: All you need to start the car is the key. There is even a new battery. Turn the key and she starts. Thanks for asking.Q: "Does the car have A/C?"A: No. However the rear window unzips so you get lots of air through the car. I've never needed A/C in it but it may be different if your stuck in traffic for ages.Q: "Do all of the tires have the caps?"A: There are no caps on the tires. These are original REAL spoked rims." For sale is a 1965 Ford Thunderbird, which has had the major mechanical work already finished as part of a re-build. I have had the car for twelve years and in that time it has been a daily driver for the first 8. The car is in original condition with the exception of the following. - The original points style ignition system was replaced with an MSD ignition module and distributor. The original ignition system is still in the vehicle and I have the original points distributor. The car can be put back to the original setup in about 2 hours if you want the car original for shows etc. - The original single-cylinder brake master cylinder was replaced by a modern dual-cylinder and proportioning valve. (I like to stop when I need to). The car is equipped with front disk brakes and the standard drum rears. - The old carb was replaced with a modern Edelbrock 4 barrel which puts out more power with better fuel economy than the original 1965 4 barrel. (I like to drive but hate paying for fuel.) All of these changes were made because I drove the car religiously including several trips from Jersey (where I am) to Greensboro NC to Belgrade lakes Maine, and 1 trip to Ohio which I don’t suggest… it’s a boooring drive. The Tbird runs strong and smooth making long trips enjoyable not to mention fun with the top down. Like I mentioned the Bird is partly restored. After driving it for 8 years life happened and I had to put it in storage. Work, travel and our lovely economy have conspired to get me to sell it. During the last 5 years the engine, automatic transmission and rear end have been rebuilt. The engine has less then 8,000 miles since the rebuild, the trany and rear less. Just so you know exactly what you will be getting into here are the things that still need to be finished for the car to be A+. First remember the car has sat in storage for 3 years. In that time the following has gone south on her. - The windows, which are electric, need new switches or wiring. I am not sure which. Either way they do not work. The motors were replaced sometime about 6 years ago so I do not think they are the issue. I think the switches went. - The convertible top also decided to not work. You can manually put it up and down but the switch is dead and the hydraulics have a leak in one of the plastic lines. The actuators (pistons) and everything works well and the car has 2 hydraulic pumps instead of just 1. Both of them work properly. One runs the trunk and one runs the top. - Lastly there is a leak in the passenger side exhaust manifold. I think it’s a blown exhaust gasket. You can feel the puff-puff with your hand when the engine is running. - The body is in good condition but it will need some small rust spots touched up and a paint job. The current paint is Ragoon Red lacquer and in the one picture you can see that the paint bubbled up on the trunnk. There is no rust though just the paint popping from sitting under a tarp for three years. When I first got the car I tore it apart and repaired all of the floor and trunk rust. Leaded the seams and installed interior rust protect and sound deadening material. They are still in excellent condition and the floor and trunk are completely free of rust… not to mention heat and sound resistant. I tried to show the rust spots in the attached photos but if you need better images call me (609)413-1450 or email and I can send over some higher resolution photos. Like I have said before, the car has had all of the major mechanical work for the rebuild completed. The engine, transmission, rear and dual exhaust are in excellent condition. The engine sounds and runs great! The trany is stong and does not slip. The breaks could use a bleeding since they have been sitting but they also work. All electrical except that mentioned is in good shape including all lights, turn signals, indicators, electric antenna, windshield wipers, air vents, etc. The rear taillights are the original three-way sequential flashers and they also work. They were not turned into the single light system like so many of these cars were… they’re cool. Seriously, its one of the features I love. Also the deep resinous sound of the exhaust just gets the blood pumping. The Bird is really a great reliable car and the work it needs is minimal. It’s an easy father-son project that you can drive while you work on it. OK, a run down of the car again. Engine – 390V8 – rebuilt <8000 mi on it Transmission – Automatic - rebuilt <3000 mi on it Rear – rebuilt <3000 mi on it Tires – wide whitewalls - <3000 mi on them Rims – Original spoke rims. Some surface rust on some of the spokes. I also have 4 spare spoke rims that go with the car Interior – With the exception of a worn armrest in the rear and a worn armrest/ glove box in front the interior is in great shape. The seats were redone before I got the car and I took care of them. Interior switches etc. – Everything works except the top and windows. Rug – Also in great shape. No wear or discoloration. Vinyl Top – Good shape. Has a repaired tear near the rear but it does not leak and the rear plastic window is intact and not fogged over. If it’s your first time buying a car and are looking for a shipping service, I have used DAS (Dependable Auto Shipping) several times without any issues so you can give them a call to set that part up. Payment is expected prior to picking up the car or cash if you’re going to pay when you pick it up. Checks are fine but they will need to clear the bank. I’ve tried to show everything in the photos but if there is something you want to see or more information that you want… other questions… want to stop by and see the car… please feel free to call me (John) at 609-413-1450.
