Vehicle Detail
1976 Porsche 912E Everybody that looks at these cars usually knows how rare they are. But until a person owns one, they never really understand how cool they are. I drove a 912E in college and secretly wished it was a 911. All the while driving it and abusing it as only a college kid could. The same way a 911 would never put up with. Because the 912E was so good to me, I took it for granted. I thought that this was a Porsche thing and I wanted horsepower!! I listened to the teasing by guys that drove soulless crap and actually finally let it get to me. I sold my fantastic 912E, and bought a 911. Of course it was a horrible decision. Not only did the 911 cost me thousands and thousands more.. It leaked and smoked and stranded me and sucked fuel and this was a decent car!! As a 41 year old lifelong Porsche enthusiast I will say to all who care to listen that the 912E is a better car than a 911. Especially of the same vintage. Not only do they require less maintenance, they are almost as quick and get stunning gas mileage.. By any standards.. I get over 35 MPG in this car at freeway speeds and love every second of it. Now that you understand the 912E from my perspective, let me get particular about this one. I received it in a trade a short time ago on a 1980 SC I had. The previous owner was vague on the history and except for hearsay I didn’t get any records. Unlike a 911, it didn’t bother me. These cars are so simple that even with my limited mechanical knowledge, I can still determine good from bad. I inspected the car and noticed the upgrades to the wheels to 16’’ Fuchs 7s and 8s also the car has a factory sunroof and factory power mirrors which are rare. The car runs great. It takes a second or two to start when cold, but warms up quickly. It doesn’t drip oil at all. It does not puff smoke. It shifts perfectly up and down through all gears. It is mechanically very sound. Brakes, clutch, transmission, engine, exhaust, tires.. all good. It has ZERO rust and is a true California Porsche. The interior is clean and nice and well cared for. The interior is not new, but it is as good as anyone might hope for “factory original” in a car of this vintage. It’s almost 38 years old!! The exterior has been repainted and looks fine. It’s not a $10,000 paint job, but it shines well and gets looks at every intersection. The miles show 067,497 and turn over exactly as they should. Are they real? Who knows.. Doubtful.. I don’t believe any miles anymore on older cars. I judge by condition alone. I will rate this car an overall “7.5” on a 10 scale. The exterior is a 6, the interior is an 8 and the mechanics are a 9. I call them as I see them and I know a good car from a bad one. This is a good 912E from great stock. It is a total “driver” quality Porsche. I don’t think it is going to win you any awards but if you like saving money on gas, like driving a vintage Porsche that will never depreciate, and hate mechanics.. Do not overlook this car. I am setting the reserve super low and I know the car will sell. Call me if you have an interest and we can work out a “buy it now”. I only do that by phone. Also, call with any questions you have BEFORE bidding. I will NOT sell you the car AFTER you win the auction. I will answer any and all questions BEFORE auction end. Please ask them!! I love to talk about this Porsche. I just did as a matter of fact. I do this because I want a fair and honest auction and I want buyers to practice on smaller ebay items before purchasing Porsches. If you have zero or negative feedback and wish to bid, please call or write to me first to express your intentions. I will then accept your bid if I feel you understand the buying process here. Thanks Again!! Justin 503-969-5127
