Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback Project that unfortunately I will not be able to finish due to a upcoming move at the end of September. Everything is there with the exception of the front windshield and left headlamp bezel. Here is the story and feel free to email me with any and all questions that you may have. I purchased the car back in February 2009 from a guy who had it under a dry but dusty cloth tarp in his shed for 3 years. He told me it had been his brother in-laws and that his brother in law had driven the car daily until he parked the car into the shed. The story was believable to me as it had 4 new Goodyear tires, new exhaust and even a new oil filter on the engine. The seller then went on to say that plans for the car had included all body work to be completed and a engine swap over to a 340. Needless to say, this never occured but the story made sense due to I found a factory 340-K member in the trunk along with other miscellaneous parts. I figured I would purchase the Barracuda in its current condition and finish what the other owner didn't. I had it towed on a roll back to my home and placed in my garage where I would spend evenings after work and weekends sorting all of the miscellaneous parts and pieces. I was able to get the car cleaned, and the motor freed up before getting transferred to the D.C area with my job. With the relocation to the D.C area looming, I found a Mopar enthusiast who had done restoration work on other numerous other Barracuda's and had him take the car to his garage where over the next 15 months he completely gutted the car and and began the rebuilding process that includes the processes listed below: 1) Getting the origional slant 6 engine to run. 2) Stripping the car to the bare metal. 3) All rust cut out and replaced with all new sheet metal. 4) All dents removed and repaired by metal straightening tools and sweat, no bondo and body filler. 5) Old striker plates for the doors cut out and news ones welded back in. 6) Both door hinges being rebuilt to factory specs. 7) Complete soda blasting of the entire body and frame, rear end and all other suspension pieces. 8) Factory undercoating applied to the under carriage, suspension parts, and two coats of heavy grade primer applied to the body. 9) Reassembled rear-end and casters installed making the car rollable, which allows for final body work and paint. I then scheduled for the Barracuda to be brought back to my home and parked in my driveway so that arrangements for the final body work and paint be completed before reassembling. This step has not been completed and now I realize that I will not be able to complete as I will be moving again and have no garage to store the car. The car is a blank canvas and has had all of the hardwork completed. The following pictures were taken throughout the restoration process with the last ones being intended to capture all of the trim pieces and other parts that are currently being stored in the interior and trunk. It is very hard to see everything and even harder trying to display them all. Everything is there with the exception of the front windshield and left headlamp bezel. The seats will need reupholstered and new carpet would be a smart decision. Not pictured are the engine, transmission, and 340 K member as they are being stored in a garage. They are included in the sale. Good luck bidding and I hope this Barracuda will finally be finished and put back on the road where it truely belongs. I am located in the Richmond, Virginia area and the car will need to be trailered to its new home. Once again, feel free to email me with any and all questions. Regards, Jason
