NO RESERVE! Up for auction is an amazing 1997 VW Golf GL 4 door hatchback, front wheel drive, 2.0L gas engine, and 5 speed manual tranny. This car is the reason why the sayings "don't judge a book by its cover" and a "diamond in the rough" were invented. If you are looking for alot of glitz and bling then keep looking, but if you are looking for a rock solid car that runs great and is highly dependable then you've come to the right place. Let me take this opportunity to tell you a little about my VW, which I've nicknamed the "war horse," because it runs superbly no matter how much or how far I drive it. I purchased this car about one year ago because I was looking for something economical that would save me on gas with my long commutes. This has been my daily driver. It turned out to be good on gas just as I had expected, but I also got lucky because this car turned out to be highly dependable...like the Energizer bunny it just keeps going and going and going. I've had the car for the past 20,000 miles or so and it has performed superly for me. In addition to serving as my daily commuter, having always started and having never broken down, this car has also been the car that I've driven on vacations/road trips of often over 1,000 miles and again the car performed perfectly. I've put a few things in to the car recently: 4 new tires (about 2,500 miles ago), new 1,000 CA/800 CCA battery, new brakes (about 1,500 miles ago), new air compressor tube, alignment, new life-long Airaid air filter, new xenon headlights, new distributor cap & rotor, new RainX Latitude front and rear windshield wipers, and I've regularly changed the oil every 3,000 miles using Pennzoil Ultra, Slick 50, and a KN oil filter. Additionally and importantly, the engine compartment in this car is tight as a drum--there is not a single leak or drip anywhere. I've had this car regularly parked on a white concrete surface and in the approximately 20,000 miles that I've had it there has not been a single drip. And, the car does not burn a drop of oil. 3,000 miles after changing the oil the oil is at the exact same level. And, the moon roof works perfectly (see pictures) and does not leak any water whatsoever. This is the first car that I've ever had with a moon roof...I love driving it around with the moon roof open and the window down, but the A/C blows cold if that's not your thing. There are a couple of negatives to this car that I want to be sure to fully disclose. First, the exhaust could use some work so there are exhaust leaks and these leaks have caused the check engine light to come on. I took the car in to a VW dealership to have a diagnostic performed on the check engine light and they told me that the sensor was reading unspecified exhaust/vapor leaks. They told me that if I never fixed it it wouldn't cause any problems, so I've let it be. The only other issue that I've come across while I've owned it is that the front driver side door cannot be locked from that door, but instead has to be locked from the front passenger side door. It's some little quirk that I'm sure anyone with a bit of mechanical know-how could resolve or maybe I'm just doing something wrong...who knows. I think the pictures should tell the rest of the story. I've tried to take pictures of all possible angles. One important note is that PayPal is the ONLY method of payment that I will accept and full payment must be received within 7 days of auction close and before the car is picked up or shipped to its new owner. If you have any questions please do ask. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
