Vehicle Detail
Hello, and thank you for checking out my 1996 Ford Probe GT auction! Please make sure to read the entire listing (specifically the "Attention" section at the bottom). As you can tell by looking at the pictures, this Probe will not win any beauty contests (until you give it the necessary elbow grease), but the car is mechanically in great shape, very reliable, and has less than 75K original miles on the engine and body. OVERVIEW - KLDE engine with genuine HotShot headers (car is in use during auction, so mileage will slightly vary from what's above) - Automatic transmission (shifts very smoothly) - Cloth interior (good condition, 1 cigarette burn and some general light wear) - Anti-lock brakes - Cruise control - A/C (just had it recharged--blows nice and cold, even on hot 100+ degree VA days) - Clarion C2209 CD player w/ iPod input and auxiliary jack - Vortex rims - Spoiler - Sunroof MECHANICALLY Mechanically, this Probe is in fantastic shape. I've kept up with all regular scheduled maintenance (just had the oil changed 3 days ago), it has a new radiator (6 months old), and the brakes were completely done 15K miles ago. No problems with the dreaded "check engine" light, no leaks, no odd sounds, just a well-maintained, solid-running car. I actually just drove from Richmond to Philadelphia (500 miles round trip) without a problem, and it averaged 27 MPG on the highway. I've also taken it on longer 1000+ mile trips with no trouble whatsoever, and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. One thing worth noting is that the tires are a mixed bag: 2 pretty good ones, and 2 not-so-great ones (still drivable, but worth noting nonetheless). COSMETICALLY The car needs some cosmetic loving. The hood and driver's side headlight assembly were replaced after an unfortunate 'encounter' with a majestic Ohio white-tailed deer and still need to be painted to match the rest of the car. The driver's side headlight is also missing its actuator rod (the thing that makes it go up and down, a $10 part), so for now you have to manually flip it up before driving at night (the light itself still works). Also, because of some remaining damage to front fairing(?), the driver's side headlight does not lay flush with the hood when closed (just check out the pic, you'll see what I mean). Let's talk about the rear bumper---it's a mess. I was rear-ended sitting in gridlocked traffic on 95N, and now my license plate is secured with zip ties (thanks, lady who was texting on her phone and completely oblivious to the gridlocked traffic in front of her). You could maybe salvage the bumper, but why bother when you can pull one of a Probe at a salvage yard and paint it to match? Otherwise the exterior of the car is good condition. There are some scratches here and there (16 year old car, c'mon), but no major dents or dings. There is also no rust on the body (even the sunroof, which is usually the first thing to rust on these cars). The interior of the car is also in good condition, save for the 1 cigarette burn on the driver's seat (yes, the car was occasionally smoked in, but it doesn't smell like a tar factory---Febreze rocks). There are also a few stains on the carpet from spilled Starbucks (throw down a floor mat and no one will ever know, I promise). IN CONCLUSION This car, while not the prettiest thing, is solid. So solid, in fact, that I don't really want to part with it. So why am I?---Two reasons: (1) I own a Great Dane who is literally almost the same size as the car (you can meet him when you pick up the car, if you want), and (2) I'm a musician who does a lot of hauling and I want/need more room. If I were a schoolteacher who owned a French Bulldog, I'd keep this car in a minute: it's reliable, gets great MPG, has all the features (except for leather, which burns like hell during the summer anyway), is very fun to drive, and has exceptionally low miles for its age. *** !!! ATTENTION !!! *** The winning bidder MUST pick-up on the car ON OR BEFORE JULY 31st. I am moving across the country and am leaving Richmond on the 31st. Kelley Blue Book value of this car in "Fair" (the lowest) condition is $3000, but the bidding starts at $500 with NO RESERVE. Please feel free to ask any questions before bidding and I'll answer promptly. Be well!
