Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is this fine AMC Rambler with a good start towards restoration. I acquired this car last fall with the full intent of attempting my first restore job but unforeseen financial & time circumstances preclude me from doing this. The story on this car as I know it is as follows. This car was purchased for a man's daughter I believe in the '60s, as time went on she outgrew the car and it went into storage. About 25 or 26 years ago the man's son-in-law (who is in the auto body business) re-painted the car. I have talked to this gentleman who assured me there was no rust or significant body damage (he did say there was a small crinkle in I think the left front fender) he said he straightened it and used a very small amount of bondo only to smooth some surface area. Other than that it was a straight forward paint job. He also assured me that all of the trim and other hardware was in the car, nothing had been thrown away. I did not take an inventory of the trim & chrome pieces but there are lots of pieces in the car. The bumpers are there too but there is some rust on them. The car then went into the their barn and has sat there till last fall. They also said the car was running when it went into the barn. I cannot attest to what it will take to get the car running but I suspect it would not be much, the engine is free. All of the glass is in excellent shape except for the driver's side wing, it needs replacing and the left taillight cover is missing. The interior needs to be totally re-done and we were unable to find any keys for the ignition. For what it is worth I was told by someone in the vintage car business this car restored should be worth $9,400 +/-, it is a fairly rare model.
