The matching paisley top and interior really sets these Furys apart from the rest. Sandy has a 6-25-71 assembly date, making her one of the last 1971s produced, and was sold in the Columbus, Ohio area. She still has her original 383-2bbl engine and Torqueflite automatic transmission. Her mileage today is just over 78,100, and receipts from two previous owners document maintenance as far back as 1976 when she had just 19960 miles and was serviced at Westland Chrysler-Plymouth on West Broad Street in Columbus. Receipts from that owner continue until October 1992 when she had just under 52000 miles. A new owner had her in May of 1993, and in March of 1994, with 58696 on the clock, 2 new tires were installed at the Sam’s Club in Columbus. In April 2001, now with 66500 miles, new tires were installed all the way around. Another owner purchased the car in March of 2006, and registered it a year later, now with 68138 on the odometer. There was another owner or two in a short time, and I think this was when an amateur restoration took place, with some minor bodywork and a repaint to the original color completed. I bought Sandy from a small dealership in northeast Arkansas in July of 2008 with 71833 miles, and my family has enjoyed her as a fun driver and a big part of many special outings and memories. Space issues and financial needs require that we let Sandy go on to someone new. As with most any car this age, especially those that are driven and enjoyed, she has her flaws. As stated, the AC is not working and I know the control is the main culprit. The dash has cracks, as most of these do, and the headliner needs replaced to make the interior look perfect. The seat pivot plastic covers where gone when I got her, and I am including a set I found that need to be painted to match the brown interior. The relay that controls the headlight doors does not work every time, but the motor is okay and will occasionally cycle the doors open. A knob on the motor allows for the doors to be opened manually in a few turns. The headlight washers do not function, but all parts are still installed and vacuum lines are probably to blame. Some body work was done to repair minor rust, and the filler work is visible at certain angles. Some trim and badging was deleted at that time as well. Though a matching color was used, the paint job has some runs and has since added a few chips from the roads and parking lots. The fender tag was removed and I suspect lost or forgotten when the repaint was done. The drivetrain is strong and has been trouble free, but does have a couple of leaks and drips that any this age would develop. I am including approximately 1/2 yard of the original paisley vinyl material, purchased from SMS to repair the driver's seat. have a broadcast sheet and the receipts that I described earlier, all documenting the history and details. One interesting item to note is that the VIN on the car, both on the dash and on the driver’s door decal, is PM29L1F247572, but the broadcast sheet calls it PG29L1F247572, and has GRAN COUPE at the bottom in the remarks. I haven’t seen another Gran Coupe broadcast sheet, so maybe others were similar in this regard. I could not find production dates for the 1971 model year, but I understand that most auto manufacturing was finished in June to allow time to re-tool and begin production of the next year’s models for delivery to dealers in the fall. All in all, this a great riding and driving car that has been trouble free and a pleasure to own. I have taken her from Little Rock to the Gulf Coast and my son and I just went from Little Rock to St Louis for the Monster Mopar show in early June, and had a great time. Sandy is not a perfect show car, but an eye catching conversation starter everywhere she goes and a unique piece of Mopar history. Please contact me if you have questions.
