Selling A Fun Speedster ReplicaI have been a classic car enthusiast for 9 years buying mostly Porsches Mercedes and BMW’s because in my opinion, nothing compares to German engineering. I used to own a dealership and have also helped several international buyers locate, purchase, and export these beautiful cars back to their place of origin for private collection therefore I accept and welcome bidders from around the world. Some vehicles I sell are my personal cars, some are ones that I am listing on behalf of others, but I always drive the cars and describe them to the best of my ability. Prior to bidding on any of my vehicles, please make sure to ask any questions as your bid is a binding contract stating that you accept the car in AS IS condition. All sales are final- I simply will not put up with anyone who is just shopping or wasting time. YOU MUST HAVE FUNDS READY TO MAKE FULL PAYMENT WITHIN 7 DAYS PER AUCTION TERMS IN ORDER TO BID. I know that most ebayers and classic car collectors are stand-up people but there are a few out there who simply should not be buying cars online. I do my best to describe the cars as they are in my opinion but in order to make sure that the cars are up to your standards it is your responsibility to inspect the car in person or have your assigned agent inspect the car, otherwise you are buying the car based on my opinion only- I am not a certified car inspector or mechanic- just an enthusiast that has been around a lot of classic cars so when you bid on my car you are indicating that you are satisfied with its condition and take responsibility for your decision to bid. That disclaimer being stated, here is the description I offer for this particular car: The high bidder will become the new owner of this replica of a 1957 Porsche Speedster. This car has a fiberglass body that is placed over a modified Volkswagen chassis. The car is titled as a 1968 Volkswagen which makes it easier to register than most kit cars. I have had the opportunity to drive about 10 different speedster replicas and I would say that this one rates on the more simplistic end of the spectrum. It has a stock VW motor that has been rebuilt, a stock 4 speed tranny, and the interior is pretty much as basic as these kits offer with vinyl seats and basic carpet kit. Overall the car looks great and gets tons of attention from anyone who sees it but the interior is not as nice as some of the replicas you will see with leather seats and era specific details that sell in the $20,000 range, that being said you could build this one out to your own preference for a lot less. The previous owner claimed tht the body was built by Vintage but I don't see their usual labeling or any for that matter. As far as the build goes I would say it was an average build job that could use a little correcting with things like getting the door gaps better aligned and I would have done the interior differently myself with more era correct gauges but it's a nice little basic speedster replica. I did ZERO restoration to the car- how you see it is EXACTLY how it looked when I picked it up. My assessment is that this car should be looked at as a fun little weekend driver that could use some upgrades or you can play with it as is. I believe that value is determined by what people are willing to pay for a car which is why I list cars at NO RESERVE. As mentioned this car will start right up and run for you but below you will find additional photos and descrptions as I see the car. Most people would just say “great condition” and not give all the details but I try to include everything, good and bad. This description is my opinion of the car based on my experience with classic Porsches. Ultimately it is the buyer's responsibility to determine the condition of any car for themself. Cosmetically this car looks good going down the road or from 10 feet away, but as you get closer you will note some surface scratches and chips in the fiberglass that could use some touch up however I do not see any cracks in the fiberlgass which can be a problem with kit cars. Overall the body and finish are in above average condition. As you can see in the pictures the interior is pretty basic. The windshield is in great shape, no cracks. The cover is there but the valance peice that clips to the windshield is broken on one end and needs to be fixed or replaced in order to secure the top. This is something you can order from Vintage or other kit builders pretty easily. Mechanically as mentioned the motor starts right up and pulls strong. The tranny shifts fine but it is a very short throw and takes a few minutes to get a feel for gearbox pattern to not skip gears . The car drives and handles ok on the road and the brakes seem fine but I would say that in respect to all speedster replicas that I would really look at them as a toy car for short drives as they are not the smoothest ride, nor the most comfortable- it actually rides a lot like my VW beetle. The ODO reading is supposedly accurate for the total miles on the car since the build was complete but keep in mind that the motor and tranny were rebuilt VW components. . In summary, this is a fun little toy car that should provide the new owner with an outlet of sorts or gather lots of attention. Feel free to ask questions prior to bidding. I can provide a reference for arranging very affordable transportation for this car to any state or port in the USA.
