Vehicle Detail
Selling 1950 Kaiser Vagabond Utility. These are rare to find as they only produced 4,476 of them in 1949-1950 models. Kaiser wanted to introduce a car that could be used like a station wagon but ride like a sedan. He took the 4-door sedan body shell, welded the left rear door shut and stored the spare tire inside against this door{ see pictures}. Trunk was replaced with a tailgate and hatch door like a station wagon. Rear seat folds down for more load carrying room and the whole rear floor area is furnished with original wood slats. This Kaiser sat in dry storage for the past 42 years. I have cleaned up 42 years of dirt and grime inside and out and it is looking pretty good for unrestored original. Has a Fulton sunvisor on it. No, I do not have the fender skirts! The car did come with fender skirts originally. The fender brackets are on both sides and you can see outline of where the skirts sat. Interior--Headliner is original green vinyl and in perfect condition. Rear seat is original and perfect. Front seat has wear and needs recovered. Door panels are not too bad, only the lower parts need attention, mainly to the cardboard backing, vinyl is useable. Rubber floor mats are good. Dash cleaned up beautiful, all the chrome and the ivory steering wheel. Exterior--Body is original and very solid. The rust through areas are only on the passenger rocker, passenger rear wheel area and minor on the flat part of the trunk floor rear lip only. This is shown in pictures. Very minor compared to most station wagons. The outer rear trunk hinge area is in very solid condition. Some areas are missing paint which looks worse than it is. It is surface rust only in those areas. Floor are great with no rust through except by the rocker. Front bumper is very good. Rear bumper is bent several places from pulling. Has optional fancy hood ornament. Mechanical--Since it just sat for 42 years with no attention, it needs all mechanical gone through. Brakes, fuel system, ignition, engine is stuck. I have removed the head and have been spraying different fluids in the pistons hoping to free them up but no luck yet. I have a new head gasket to go with it. All parts are there to reinstall on engine. I have clear title in my name. Call if questions or more pictures. I was going to try to get this on the road, but since, have gotten a new project to keep me busy. Starting bid low and no reserve. Priced to sell. Hope someone gets it and restores it properly. Thanks. Gary 402-873-7410 On Jul-13-12 at 03:57:20 PDT, seller added the following information: I have been contacted by someone who has a set of original fender skirts with trim for the Vagabond. I will give the new owner the name and phone number of the seller if they are interested. They would really make this car look great!!
