Selling Another Classic European Sports CarI have been a classic car enthusiast for 9 years buying mostly Porsches Mercedes and BMW’s because in my opinion, nothing compares to German engineering. I used to own a dealership and have also helped several international buyers locate, purchase, and export these beautiful cars back to their place of origin for private collection therefore I accept and welcome bidders from around the world. Some vehicles I sell are my personal cars, some are ones that I am listing on behalf of others, but I always drive the cars and describe them to the best of my ability. Prior to bidding on any of my vehicles, please make sure to ask any questions as your bid is a binding contract stating that you accept the car in AS IS condition. All sales are final- I simply will not put up with anyone who is just shopping or wasting time. YOU MUST HAVE FUNDS READY TO MAKE FULL PAYMENT WITHIN 7 DAYS PER AUCTION TERMS IN ORDER TO BID. I know that most ebayers and classic car collectors are stand-up people but there are a few out there who simply should not be buying cars online. I do my best to describe the cars as they are in my opinion but in order to make sure that the cars are up to your standards it is your responsibility to inspect the car in person or have your assigned agent inspect the car, otherwise you are buying the car based on my opinion only- I am not a certified car inspector or mechanic- just an enthusiast that has been around a lot of classic cars so when you bid on my car you are indicating that you are satisfied with its condition and take responsibility for your decision to bid. That disclaimer being stated, here is the description I offer for this particular car: The high bidder will become the new owner of this 1979 Porsche 911 SC Targa. The previous owner claimed to be the second owner of the car having it in his possession for over 14 years. As you can see from the pictures this is a driver that is in need of some TLC so I would call it a driving restoration project. When I got the car it started right up and in my test drive I was able to push the car well in excess of the posted speed limit on the interstate and it still had plenty left to give so I would say that the motor pulls strong and running is not an issue with the car. The area where I would focus my restoration efforts would be cosmetic improvements and interior. I did ZERO restoration to the car- how you see it is EXACTLY how it looked when I picked it up in New Mexico. Coming from a very dry climate it doesn't have rust issues like cars from costal environments which is a huge plus for classic Porsches. My assessment is that this car should be looked at as a driver that could use some restoration but since the most important component (engine) starts and runs strong it should make for a great entry level Porsche 911. Like most enthusiasts say, there are no old Porsches, only new drivers. The 1979 911 SC Targa has a NADA classic car value of between $17,900 and $27,500 and these cars continue to climb in value year over year as they become harder to find. That being said this car will sell to the highest bidder- I believe that value is determined by what people are willing to pay for a car which is why I list cars at NO RESERVE. As mentioned this car will start right up and run for you but below you will find additional photos and descrptions as I see the car. Most people would just say “great condition” and not give all the details but I try to include everything, good and bad. This description is my opinion of the car based on my experience with classic Porsches. Ultimately it is the buyer's responsibility to determine the condition of any car for themself. Cosmetically this car looks good going down the road or from 30 feet away, but as you get closer it shows its age. As you can see in the pictures the interior needs work. The paint has some faded areas and could use refreshing and the body has a few dings here and there. The targa top clips in place fine but has tears and could use recovering. The window regulators are wearing out so you have to help the windows up and down and you hold down the switch. Mechanically as mentioned the motor is the highlight as it starts right up and pulls strong. The tranny shifts fine gears 2-5 but the 1st gear synchro seems to be in need of of repair making it very difficult to get into 1st gear so I usually start in 2nd. This is a very common issue with these cars and you can google search multiple forums for solutions. The car drives and handles well on the road and the brakes seem fine. The ODO currently reads 113,363 but the ODO is not working and the previous owner said that it just recently stopped working (which is always the story)so the mileage is supposedly under 120K but I have no way to verify that. Long story short, I would feel comfortable jumping in this car today and driving it for a few hundred miles but it will have some projects to keep the new owner busy. Keep in mind this car is 32 years old and has not been restored. If you are looking for a car that has been restored, be prepared to spend the $25K retail that these sell for. In summary, this is a 1979 911 SC with a Euro VIN (5th number is a 3 instead of a 2 which designates US models) which is a model that is increasingly becoming more difficult to find in running condition. It would make a great classic sports car toy that still has a lot of life left in it- it’s really only in it's infancy for these motors and can handle many many more good years of aggressive and thrilling motoring. Feel free to ask questions prior to bidding. I can provide a reference for arranging very affordable transportation for this car to any state or port in the USA.I will add more pics later this week- my camera had an issue when loading pictures today.
