Vehicle Detail
Relisted due to previous winning bidder not being able to complete the transaction. This is a rare opportunity to own a very rare truck! This is a 1981 Chevrolet LUV 4x4 w/ the C223 Isuszu 2.2 liter diesel. This is an original Georgia low mileage farm truck with the odometer showing a little over 70K original miles. It has factory A/C, power steering and power brakes. It is 99.5% rust free. It runs great and drives good for a 30 year old compact diesel truck. It is incredibly hard to find one of these, especially with factory A/C and without rust. I will walk you around the truck and explain it to you exactly as I see it. Exterior It is an original black truck with tan interior. It had been repainted parking lot yellow but has recently had a quickie paint job done. It's not perfect but it's presentable and actually it looks pretty cool. The inside of the bed was also coated with spray-in bedliner at the time of the paint job. It has nearly new tires, new emblems on the grill and tailgate. All of the lights work except the reverse lights. It has a cool welded rear bumper with a built in trailer hitch and a LED license plate light. It's far from perfect but it's far from horrible. Most people that see it think it's very cool. Interior Since this was a farm truck, it spent most of it's life in the sun, which caused the dash to crack and the door panels have seen better days. It has a different seat out of an Isuzu truck that we put a black seat cover on. It is the correct seat for the truck, just a different color. The original floor mat has some tears and it has normal wear and tear in other places. Mechanical It starts and runs great, drives very well, steering is tight and smooth, brakes work well, it shifts nice and the 4x4 works perfect. It has new shocks and tires. All of the front suspension is nice and tight. Mechanically, it's in great condition and should provide years of enjoyment. Overall Here is a list of items that need attention or don't work Radio, fuel gauge and temp gauge don't work reverse lights and the dome light don't work the door locks don't work, they need re-keyed the turn signals stopped working the A/C works but has a mind of it's own, vacuum line issues. It has just a few minor rust holes in the front of the bed and the two front cab corners, all of these are very minor It could use some minor cosmetic work inside and out, trim pieces etc. Even with all of this, this truck is super rare, has a clean title, runs great and is ready to put to use right away. You just don't find these trucks with 4x4 and A/C everyday. This truck would make a great toy or farm workhorse. I'm sure it gets at least 30mpg. It's not fast and it's not pretty but it's one of the coolest trucks I've ever seen. If you have any questions, you can call me at 941-720-0300, my name is Jason. I have the clear Florida title in my possession. I can help with shipping arrangements. The truck is located in Bradenton, which is about 30 miles south of Tampa, Florida. On Jun-12-12 at 06:26:12 PDT, seller added the following information: Update 06-12-12 I wanted to answer a few of the questions that I've received so many of so far. Is the mileage original? We do not know for sure, but with my experience with cars, I can tell by looking at things like the front suspension parts that all appear to be original and are not worn out that more than likely the mileage is original. The fact that it was a farm truck in Georgia would also suggest low mileage. Since it was a farm truck, has there been any damage to the wiring under the dash? NO, they have not been any rodents living in the truck. When I say it was a farm truck, I don't think it was negelected or abused, but I'm sure it was rarely washed, etc. What's the deal with the rear bumper?? I would suspect that this truck never had a back bumper on it, that was common practice in the 80's to not have a rear bumper forcing customers to buy one at the dealer for extra $$. My friend had this buper fabricated and welded to the frame. It does have a hitch plate with a ball and it should be strong enough to tow a small boat or ATV trailer up to 2500 lbs. or so. What is the gas mileage?? We are not sure, I would have to say that it's over 30mpg. It will run on almost anything, it has been run on diesel fuel only for the past few months but it has run on biodiesel and I hear they will run on used motor oil too. What is the top speed??? About 65 if you have enough miles of road to get it there. It could use the timing set on the injector pump. It runs good as it is but it could be dialed in to be perfect. I don't have the proper timing tools for it, although you don't necessarily need it, it can be timed by ear so to speak. Does the 4x4 work?? Yes, perfectly, it feels like it would climb a vertical wall How is the paint job??? It's a quick acrylic enamel paint job. It looks nice but the previous farm owner had painted the truck with a paint brush. You can still see underlying flaws and dents in the paint job. Hey it's a farm truck and I think it looks really cool that it doesn't have a show car paint job. How well does it drive??? For a 30 year old imported truck that's 4x4 and has a commercial grade diesel engine, it drives excellent. Don't expect a smooth quiet ride. It has diesel clatter, a flat bench seat, super smooth power steering, firm brakes and a nice tight front end. It shifts smooth and sure and doesn't pull to the left or right. It probably drives very close to how it did when it was new. What does it need??? It needs a radio or the one in it needs to be hooked up, the fuel gauge fixed, the temp gauge sending unit replaced and a new owner. This is the perfect father/son project if you ask me. Simple but challenging to work on and you can do what ever you want with it. As many of you know, these trucks are incredibly rare to begin with, very few were ever sold. It's now nearly impossible to find a survivor example of this generation of Isuzu Pup/ Chevy LUV. Most of them have long since rotted away. This one needs a few odds and ends but it's a great canvas on which to start. The best thing I can say about this truck is if I had the money to buy it from my friend, I would. It's a great collector truck.
