Vehicle Detail

Offered here is one of the nicest examples of the venerable MB full size S class model 300-SD Turbo Diesel 4 door sedan we have ever come across. This is a highly well maintained 2 owner car that has had a comprehensive light restoration and mechanical upgrades. It is an extremely low mileage car (99k) that has resided with the current owner since 1987. In the intervening years, this owner added less than 50,000 miles to the odometer. Since new, the car has only been driven an average of 3,400 miles PER YEAR!! This car is a very solid and rust free vehicle with a nice paint job and an excellent interior. With very little wear on the drive train and suspension, this would make a fine daily driver for any discerning Mercedes Benz fan. For those of you who are familiar with the fill size S class Mercedes, you would support the fact that this model Mercedes may be one of the best engineered and safest car (of any make) ever made. As far as the body and paint go, this SDL is well above average. With the exception of a small dent in the right side passenger’s door, there are no major marks on the car. It has been painted once (from Mercedes silver to smoke silver) and the paint is very good to excellent (could use a little wet sanding and buff out). As you can see from the photos, it is a most presentable and handsome car. In addition to a recent major service to the car (mechanics records available), this car also had the following work done- Low mileage Michelin tires- Alloy wheels stripped and repainted (Mercedes silver)…by a paint and body shop, 15” later model wheels (stock 14”)! Checked and serviced brakes- New fuel and oil filters- Replaced water and fuel lines as needed (as well as any other worn parts) Recent full service (oil change, fuel filters, belts and etc.) Detailed paint and interior- This car has a very solid dash, instrumentation, headliner, door panels and seats. Only the drivers seat (leather) shows any damage (a seam tear). The wood trim is good to excellent and the rugs are very good. There is not a whole lot else that was done because the mileage is so low and not much needed to be done! The car simply runs handles, rides and stops like a newer car. It is an exceptional driver and the engine is simply just getting broken in. In addition, the car was serviced by the same mechanic for many years. Records are available regarding service. DETAILS- Mileage- 99,680 at the time the photos were taken (May 17, 2012) Color- Metallic smoke silver Engine- 3.0 liter five cylinder fuel injected diesel 120 horsepower Transmission- four speed automatic Brakes- Dual circuit four wheel disc power assisted w/pad wear indicator. Suspension- Independent front and rear w/coil springs, diagonal swing axle, anti-roll control bar and hydraulic load leveling for the rear. . Other features- front bucket seats, Air Conditioning, Power steering, Power windows, Cruise control, Automatic Manual sunroof, Automatic electric antennae, Non- original high grade Blaupunkt AM/FM Stereo Radio with CD player, real Zebrano wood trim, dual headlights with amber driving lights, Redone 15” alloy MB wheels, new heavy duty white Mercedes battery. Extensive mechanical improvements as listed! Condition- BODY- Straight and rust free, one small door dent and normal wear and tear as expected from a car this vintage. The paint job has not yet been wet sanded and buffed; doing so would improve the final shine on this finish. . TRIM- All trim and window moldings are in excellent condition and most were detailed. It also has a nice front grill, insert and trim pieces, an excellent Mercedes symbol and etc. It also has solid headlight doors, nice side marker lamps, an excellent front bumper, nice and rear bumpers (has a small spot of missing chrome) and many new rubber moldings, excellent mirrors and an undamaged windshield. This car was mostly garage kept and it looks like it! INTERIOR- Overall excellent condition- A near flawless dash, no tears in the headliner or door panels, rear seat excellent with little discoloration, original driver and passenger’s seat are also excellent with only some mild discoloration and a seam tear in the driver’s seat only. This car is extremely comfortable to sit in and the seats are firm and not collapsed (like most cars this age). Wood trim on dash is very good, to excellent although the center console should be replaced to really make it look great. Excellent interior trim and all switches and gauges are solid and crisp. All the carpets are in very good to excellent condition. There are a few defects here and there, but nothing that is glaring. ENGINE COMPARTMENT- The compartment is unusually clean (including the painted surfaces and decals). It has no evidence of old oil deposits, battery spray or discoloration. Engine and wiring are very clean and well maintained. (See pics). As previously mentioned, it has a very low mileage engine and it runs and sounds new (it is one of the most powerful and quiet 5 cylinder Turbo diesel engines we have ever seen. Other details- This car is like driving a new car! The engine and trans are superb because of the extremely limited mileage. Because the owner always maintained the car to the highest standard, the suspension is exceptionally tight and accurate; the steering is solid and has no slack and the engine is super smooth and has great torque and acceleration. It has no problem getting up to posted highway speeds and way beyond!! If you are looking for a great car to drive and to use, with excellent economy and safety, this S class will fit the bill. This car and is currently kept under a car cover in a heated garage in Rockville, Md. According to the owner, this car averages 29 mpg or more on the highway and 23 in the city. Its top speed is well over 90 mph and it cruises very comfortably at 70 mph. If you are close to Rockville, Md. (and the D.C. area in general) then we encourage you to come see the car in person. This is a 29 year old car and in most states it will qualify for very inexpensive antique or vintage vehicle tags. Insurance for this car (according to the current owner) is less than $120.00 per year (from Hagerty) and we estimate under current fuel prices that it costs about 18 cents a mile to operate. . Good luck with your bidding and we are confident that you will not be disappointed with the condition or the mechanical soundness of this exceptional and classic Mercedes station wagon!
