Vehicle Detail

1976 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible Karman Edition This vehicle is an all-original EXTREMELY RARE, BEAUTIFUL LOW MILEAGE, Collector's Car that has been well maintained and would make an easy show car, or full restoration project. This vehicle has 100K miles. YOU WILL BE HARD PRESSED TO FIND ANOTHER BEETLE AS RARE AS THIS. THERE WERE ONLY A FEW VW SUPER BEETLES IN TRIPLE WHITE MADE IN 1976. Any VW enthusiast knows the value of this rare car and how this vehicle will continue to appreciate in value. I showed this vehicle in a few car shows last summer and it gets a lot of attention. The car runs great and is operates reliably. Because of the fuel injection, it is GREAT ON GAS. It only needs a few minor issues addressed that I outline below to be maximized. I purchased this car from the original owner as a show car and only used this car only for local parades for our business! We have not driven this vehicle on the highway within the past two years. The car has never been abused or wrecked. This car will simply be a great investment!! The car was titled most its life in Texas. Miles: 100,575 Operation: The car runs fine and is extremely reliable. Again, we have not used extensively, so we would recommend a tune-up and engine diagnosis before a lengthy drive or daily use. Paint: The CAR WAS REPAINTED WITH A DRIVER QUALITY PAINT JOB PRIOR TO MY PURCHASE AND THE PAINT IS IN GOOD CONDITION!! It does have a few very small chips and dings that are really not noticeable from normal distance. Top: The car has a new convertible top and rubber molding around the new top. The headliner is new. The car comes with the original convertible cover that has some stains commensurate with the age of the vehicle. Wheels: The car comes with the chrome moon wheels with chrome center caps that are in good condition. The wheels do have minor surface rust that can be easily removed. Again, this car has been driven sparingly for years and was stored in covered storage. Engine and Transmission: The engine and manual transmission are original and do not have any issues. Tires: The tires are oversized low-profile tires with about 25% treadlife remaining. I would recommend replacing the tires for extensive use or highway travel as their size causes the front end to shake at about 50 MPH. Suspension: The car has new front and rear struts and shocks and rides well and straight down the road. Interior: The interior is in excellent condition for a classic car that is over twenty years old. There is one crack in the dash, which appears to be a design flaw. The seats have been recovered and are in great condition. The rear seat is in excellent condition, but is not anchored since it was easier to remove for our parade use; it simply lays in the natural position without being bolted in. The door panels have been replaced and are in excellent condition without rips or tears. The carpet is in good condition and has no blemishes. The seat belts work, however, the tensioners do not pull the belts back when they are released. Radio: The radio is a new aftermarket AM/FM/CD player with remote control, aux input, and Bluetooth capability. Headliner: The car has a new headliner that is in excellent condition. Bumpers: The chrome bumpers on the vehicle are in good condition. There has been some welding on one of the front bumper struts to hold the mounting bracket. The rubber bumper strut covers do not completely cover the fender openings where the bumper struts enter; this is a very minor issue and appears to be because the rubber on the covers has grown rigid over the years. The bumper struts and covers can be replaced very inexpensively. Floors: The floor pans on the vehicle are solid. The previous owner welded new metal in the floors over the original floors, so from beneath the vehicle, you can see small holes from the original rear floor pans where water invaded over the years. The floor metal is solid, I am just bringing this to attention for aesthetic purposes. There is some rust in front wheel wells which is common for these convertibles. Windows: The car has manual windows that work fine. The rear window on the convertible is is great condition. Doors: The doors open and shut well. Heater and A/C: The heater on the car has been disconnected and the car is a convertible, so it does not have A/C. The fan for the heat and A/C has been disconnected. Windshield: The windshield on the vehicle has a crack about 3” long which is not in the direct field of view. Trunk: The front cargo area has been carpeted and is in great condition and has the original spare. The rubber molding for the cargo and trunk areas need to be replaced. The thin metal strips for both areas have surface rust that can be easily replaced or repaired. Lights: The headlights, marker lights, and tail lights work fine. New Parts and Repairs: New Front Shocks, New Rear Shocks, New Alternator, New Radio, New Vinyl Top, New Door Panels, New Rear Tail Lights, New Muffler Many of the issues I find with this car needs are very common for these Beetles and are very simple repairs. As noted above, the major issues have been addressed with new parts and repairs. Some of the issues I would address with the car: 1. The previous owner welded new metal in the floors over the original floors, so from beneath the vehicle, you can see holes from the original rear floor pans. The floors and new metal are solid, I am just bringing this to attention for aesthetic purposes. Most VW aftermarket suppliers sell these floor pans very inexpensively, so to fully remove the old ones and have new metal installed would not be very costly. 2. The front and rear deck lids operate fine, but need new moldings and adjusting. 3. The tires should be replaced for highway travel as I stated earlier, 4. The parking brake cable needs to be tightened. We never used the parking brake, so it was not an issue for us. VW suppliers sell the cable very inexpensively. 5. The windshield wipers stopped working a few months ago and I have not looked into this and the washer operates through the air in the spare tire and is disconnected. 6. The fronts seat tracks need to be adjusted to move freely. I have never moved them, but a shorter driver may need to. Many of the issues this car needs are very common for these Beetles. Again, although I outline the issues, this car has, in most cases, the parts are very inexpensive and simply repairable. We used a company called J-Bug and JC Whitney to find almost all of the parts we replaced on the vehicle. ALTHOUGH THIS CAR IS NOT PERFECT, IT IS STILL IN VERY GOOD CONDITION, HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED, AND IS IN FAR BETTER CONDITION COMPARED TO OTHER BEETLES I HAVE SEEN. My intent is to represent this vehicle well in my description in hope that a new owner will give this car the due love that it needs. I would prefer to sell this vehicle to a VW Beetle enthusiast that knows the history, value, even the quirks of these vehicles. As with all older vehicles, vehicle lovers may have different perspectives on the condition of vehicles. I encourage any interested bidder to inspect the vehicle in-person before bidding or buying.
