Vehicle Detail
No Reserve Auction!!!! Always registered in California, this vehicle was a barn find and has recently been brought back to life after sitting in storage for 10 years. The previous owner indicated the fuel pump went out and he just put it into a barn. It has been cleaned up with all fluids replaced and major mechanical items checked out. Odometer reads 109k miles, however, car fax reports potential error. Exterior Being always registered in California, you would expect this car to be clean, and it is. This 2nd generation (type FC) RX-7 was repainted prior to storage with an added sports front fairing. The exterior was deep cleaned; clay bared, sealed and waxed using Maguire’s products. The paint is shinny and there is no evidence of any accident or body damage. There are no clear coat issues and a few minor scratches that you see because of the white wax. Even the door jambs are very clean (see pictures). The front fairing and bumper looks great from 5 to 10 feet away but up close you can see some stress cracking and a paint bubble that has cracked open (see pictures). There has been some minor touch up and if you want it show quality, you will want to have it repainted. The convertible top was just replaced with a good condition used unit and it is fully functional. A small tear was repaired (see picture). The Electronic dash button works properly to automatically open and close top. The convertible cover must have been purchased just prior to storage because it looks brand new. The set of matching BBS rims are in very good shape. They could be even better shape with a little effort and polish. A BBS center cap remover tool is included. The matching Nankang 215/60 R15 94H tires are in very good shape with a lot of tread left and little side wall cracking. The spare tire is original and used and holds air. The original lift jack and accessory tools are in the truck. Interior Overall this vehicle looks very clean. All controls and parts are present, although I can not guarantee they are fully functioning. There are no cracks in the dash board or door panels. The leather/vinyl seats are in very good condition with exception of one tear starting on the driver seat at the vertical seam (see picture). My upholstery guy offered to fix it for $75 but I was already picking vehicle up after getting top installed. Shifter boot is nice as is the center console arm rest. The carpet has no tears but does have a few stains my small vacuum could not get out. The doors panels have no cracking and look great. The rear deck lid covering the spare tire (included) is in good shape with all 4 hand bolt downs working properly. This deck has Pioneer grills mounted but no speakers are attached (see picture). The wind shield moves as it should. Engine & Mechanical Components Overall, this vehicle runs great and handling is tight. The Rotary 13B fuel injected engine and other mechanical components were inspected and the following items were performed by a local shop: - Flushed fuel tank and lines. Installed new fuel pump. Completed fuel injection cleaning service. - Flushed brake fluid. Disc brakes work great (4 piston front/ 2 piston rear). - Tune up with new oil /filter and Radiator flush. - Installed new battery. - Clutch fluid flushed with new Master and Slave cylinder. - The engine bay was fully degreased and detailed. This vehicle starts up quickly and settles down to a steady idle shortly. On a cold start up, a bit of smoke puffs out of the dual exhaust, which is very common with the Rotary engines. Once started, no smoke is present. It appears that a battery spit out acid around causing damage to the surrounding paint (only around the battery area). Additionally, the insulation blanket basically disintegrated when cleaning the engine bay. This model has the naturally aspirated 13B engine, known for its reliability. According to a RX-7 web-site, this engine has the highest power to displacement ratio of any naturally aspirated engine produced. This model has passive rear steering, known as “Dynamically Tracking Suspension System”, or DTSS. The 5-speed transmission shifts great through all gears well. The rack and pinion steering is tight and vehicle is properly aligned. Steering feels tight and I suspect the suspension was upgraded prior to storage. Items that make this less then perfect: - Oil gauge is intermittent. Sometimes it reads pressure, sometimes it does not. - Drivers side window motor is bad, used unit is included. - Passenger Door does not open from outside. Included are several exterior door locks included to replace damaged one. - Stereo in dash is not hooked up at this time. Vehicle is wired for an aftermarket stereo with a separate amp and rear speakers. This vehicle comes with 3 Mazda OEM radios that the previous owner included (in the trunk). There is speakers in the front dash, side doors, in the seats (with center volume control) and wired for rear speakers. I will include a Pioneer aftermarket cassette head unit and Pioneer 3-way 6”x9” speakers in enclosures if you want them. I have title in hand and bill of sale but I have not registered. I was told it was registered as a non-operation however; I investigated and found approximately $600 in DMV fees for last 3 years. Out of state buyers will not have to pay this. For out of town buyers, I will help in shipping and recommend using UShip because it is easy and linked to e-bay. I can send High Resolution pictures to serious buyers. Voltage Fuel, Temperature, and even oil gauges worked today when I started. Oil gauge is reading about 45 psi at idle. Wipers work, Defroster works, the heater/AC controls work, however it appears AC needs charging because no cold air. The cig. lighter is not plugged in at this time because it is part of the frame around the stereo and I believe it will work. As previously stated, the current stereo in the pictures is one of 3 units that came with the vehicle and is not hooked up. There was an aftermarket stereo hooked up that was removed and there are a bunch of wires stuffed behind the head unit. There are wires for an amp, antenna hook up and a lot of speaker wires. The winner will need to install stereo of your choise. Also note the frame arount the stereo and center components was cracked and has been glued back together. There is a small piece missing that may be in the truck. There are two additional frames, also cracked, that came with the stereos. I have fount this frame, in perfect condition, available on web-sites. As mentioned, when you start dead cold after sitting, she blows smoke for less then a minute. Someone called and asked if it smells like oil or gas.... The interior does not smell of oil or gas but has an old smell. A few days of driving would take care of that. There is no engine smell coming into the vehicle when the engine is running, or when you turn the fan on. Hope this helps!
