Vehicle Detail

1965 Ford Mustang Convertible Project Car This auction is for a 1965 Ford Mustang 289 V-8 convertible with an automatic transmission. It is a nice project car that needs some body and cosmetic work -- please see photos and ask questions, if you have any. I intended to restore it, but have been unable to due to health reasons. The title is clear. The former owner had a new VIN assigned, so the VIN listed is the one from the frame of the car and the new one is on the door seal. As a result, the car has a title brand from Virginia. Before I got ill, I was able to do considerable work on the car. Here is what has been done and needs to be done: {Note all of this work was done around three years ago, so the items do show some signs of wear.} INTERIOR: These items were replaced three years ago: Pony door panels Visors Dash pad Black convertible top Convertible plastic window Convertible boot top Mustang name plates and emblems Plaid trunk mat kit that includes tire cover Dark red paint job (does show some minor chips, see photos) Front seats are ripped out in several spots and need to be recovered. This Mustang has bench vinyl seats with a fold-down divider. The back seat is in pretty good condition with no rips or tears. The foam and springs on front and back seats are in good condition. The steering wheel has the standard cracks; the chrome on the horn is in good condition. WINDOWS/GLASS: The windows/glass are all clear and in very good condition, no cracks. Windows all roll up and down. They are a little stiff but go normally. I cannot see any scratches either. BODY/WHEELS: {Note all of this work was done around three years ago, so there is some wear wear} Very nice hub caps Very nice exterior Mustang name plates and ornaments Very nice side mirrors Nice tires - Big O Steel radial P205/75R14 Good tread left The body is straight and the fenders and panels are in good condition. There are a few minor dings. There is a chip and a dent on the left rear fender. (see photos) It is sort of a push in dent and the paint it scraped. (Note: it should be able to be popped out) The paint is dark red and there a few small chips throughout. (see photos) The vinyl top and interior are black. There are a couple of small holes in the top (see photos). The rear window is plastic and easy to see through. There is no rust in the fenders, hood, trunk, doors or any of the exterior panels. There is rust in the main frame, and on the undercarriage and some on the floor pans (see photos), but it does not look too bad to me {Note: these are approximately 2" 6" box steel and solid}. The former owner said he had some frame stiffeners welded and bolted onto the main frame, which can be seen in the photos, and these appear to be holding well. (This does give slightly less clearance under the car.) The rust is mostly confined to the undercarriage. Bumpers are in fair condition. They have no dents or bends, but the chrome has come off a fair portion of them and there are some minor rust developing in these areas. So there is some bare metal showing. (see photos) The floor pans are in very good condition in the front and rear with very little rust -- see photos. The trunk had its pan replaced at some point and is mostly rust-free. (Although there is some rust on the sides and where the pan was not replaced. (see photos) ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION: Are clean and run and work well, it has the following. Very Nice Edelbrock intake manifold Very Nice Chrome air cleaner Nice automatic transmission Nice alternator Muffler is in good condition Nice shocks GREAT HIGH OUTPUT four-barrel "Demon carburetor" (The Demon carb is an updated version of the Holley-type carb. I like it because it has a high output for power, and looks real nice.) Solid exhaust system into a single muffler and exhaust pipe Brakes good - stops straight Bearings are tight and seem to be in good condition. It has a 289 V-8 automatic. The engine is strong and tight and has no leaks. It has good compression. Seems to run very well, smooth and strong. The car was converted to an automatic transmission which seems to work well. (The car originally had a three-speed manual transmission and the clutch peddle is still in the car. I didn’t remove it, because I kept thinking I would take it back to a manual, but never did.) Steering is good with very little play. You are encouraged and welcome to inspect the car prior to bidding or ask questions. Note: The description of this car is as well as I know it. However, I am NOT a certified mechanic, so the things which are said are based on my best opinion and what I believe only. This is a project car. It is sold as is, with no warranty or return. Payment must be made within 3 days of the sale with a certified cashier’s check or Cash ONLY!
