Vehicle Detail

1986 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 Black Pearl Metallic, factory Recaro black leather, 5-speed Getrag manual transmission 114,624 miles, VIN #WDBDA34D5GF168638 Mercedes-Benz aficionados know a limited number of these special, Cosworth-enhanced sports sedans were imported to the United States in 1986 and 1987. I purchased this vehicle with 89K miles in 2006 after a long search and am the fourth proud owner. Clear title. Always garaged, both at work and at home, and never raced or rallied. It’s a joy to drive, possessing an intriguing combination of old-world build quality and exciting performance that still delights to this day. Throughout my privileged ownership, this car has been scrupulously refurbished by a superb German automotive specialist to factory specifications, with more than $25K spent. Genuine factory parts are featured throughout, and no drivetrain modifications have been made. Important features like air conditioning and the self-leveling rear suspension (SLS) are functional. The following key components were replaced with OEM: air conditioning compressor (plus condenser, receiver drier and relay), air flow sensor, alternator, blower motor, brake caliper (right rear), clutch master and slave cylinders, engine mounts, exhaust system (plus catalytic converter), front struts, radiator, rear suspension (ball joints, control arms, struts and bushings), sunroof motor and water pump. Regular wear items (belts, hoses, pads, rotors, shoes) also have been replaced with OEM. Bottom line, this vehicle has received the best “care and feeding,” always with an eye towards refurbishing and maintaining it in stock condition and enhancing reliability. Comprehensive service records from my ownership are available, along with others from the previous owner. Original documentation includes the window sticker, owner’s manual, customer data plate and other dealership materials; the tool roll and jack are in the trunk. The exterior is in good condition and as expected for a car of this vintage. It’s equipped with Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S tires in the correct 205/55-15 size on the original wheels. Most of the original paint is intact and there’s no rust on the body panels. There's a repaired dent in the right rear corner, a small covered area near the trunk where a mobile phone antenna once was mounted, several dime-sized dings, the grill has a small crease at the lower left edge and the paint contains small chips and horizontal scratches on the right rear side. All of these items were present when I purchased the car. The interior also is in good condition, with functional sunroof and other power accessories. The Becker Grand Prix Electronic stereo has been restored. Full sets of all-weather and factory carpet mats, plus fitted windshield sunshade, accompany the car. Windows are tinted with a high quality, removable film to further protect the interior. Euro-spec Bosch headlamps were installed by the previous owner to improve nighttime visibility. There are two small dash splits and a tiny piece of missing wood trim, but a pristine factory replacement dash specific to this model is included. Cruise control and third brake light don’t work, but otherwise I’m unaware of other features that aren’t operating as intended. I welcome your inspection and questions. Please let me know how I may help. A modest reserve has been set. A $500 PayPal deposit will be required within 48 hours of auction close, non-refundable. The balance will be due in cash or cashier’s check within 7 days of auction close. Buyer is fully responsible for pick up or shipping. This vehicle is for sale locally (“as is, where is,” like this auction) so I reserve the right to end this auction early. Thank you for bidding, and good luck!
