NO RESERVE, NO RESERVE, NO RESERVE THIS CAR WILL SELL TO HIGHEST BIDDER. 1922 Essex Coach Here we have a rarely offered 1922 Essex coach or two-door sedan made by Hudson. This is an older restoration in good running and cosmetic condition.I bought this car recently and have realized that I bit off a little more than I can chew at my age.The car is very clean with no rust or signs of collision damage. The car has four relatively new Firestone balloon tires (4.50 x 21), strong solid spoke wheels and a very, verynice interior with the seats and door panels done in a greenish-gray whip cord that looks era-authentic and is complete with the draw down shades as original. The floor is covered fore and aft with a black rubber mat.The body and most importantly the whole-fabric top are both in excellent condition. The paint is showing wear around the edges with some scratching, touch ups and stains. It doesn't look bad, but would benefit from a paint job in the future. There are no dents or signs of rust. All of the safety glass is good with no cracks or chips. The lights and horn work and the car has an original moto-meter, cowl lights, beveled glass windwings, and dual spot lights. The car runs and the engine is strong, although a few mechanical things should be addressed and are listed below. All in all this car presents well and starts, runs, and stops. It's no speed demon and takes a bit of patience while driving (double clutching and so forth). It is, after all, 90 years old and the design is even older than that. These Essex coaches are significant in automotive history as the first affordable closed cars. The design is funky-over the top with very angular lines and a simple body construction by Budd. It even has roll-up windows, quite an innovation in the entry-level field in 1922! The detailed photos include: The original Boyce moto-meter, a front wheel with hubcap, the dash with the great wooden steering wheel, a front view that shows the chrome bumper and very nice radiator badge, a close-up of the marvelous coachwork that was done on the top, and the accessory stop light. I think I have to surrender the plates when I get the NM title, but I'm not sure. If the successful buyer is from Calif. where the plates are currently DMV clear, we might be able to work something out on the pair (they are, however, repaints). The VIN listed is the engine number (as titled). The actual serial number is 513232 both of which are correct for 1922. Actual mileage is unknown. At the moment I have a clear California title signed over to me in my name. When the first bid is placed, I will tend to the taxes due and obtain a clear New Mexico title to be transferred to the highest bidder.Things to do list:Brakes need adjustmentCar runs on an electric fuel pump, but the original SW vacuum tank is present and rebuildable. The radiator-louver lever needs attention. The moto-meter needs a new gasketThere is a slight shimmy in the front end noticeable only when going over a severe bump. The front shocks need to be attached. The speedometer is out of the car and in need of attention although it is cosmetically very nice. The glass tail light lens has a crack in it.There is a small, dime size hole in the back of the driver's seat that needs to be mended. The spare tire is old and may not be serviceable (only one is actually on the car although 2 are pictured). Occasionally pops out of second gear and is slow to gain speed in third. Auction absolute and any sale is final.Sold where is, as is, FOB Albuquerque NM.This is a private sale; I am not a dealer.Transportation is solely the responsibility of the buyer.Car is listed for sale locally and subject to prior sale before first bid is placed. All questions answered. Call 505 828 2165 or e-mail mycousinsteve@aol.com There's lots of value here with a low open bid and no reserve! Good luck!!!
