Vehicle Detail
I'm looking to sell my Mercedes 300D turbo. This thing has a great little low mileage motor (96,031 miles) that cranks the first time every time. Here is a video of the engine at idle http://youtu.be/IuuZP_tNfSI I picked her up in Knoxville about a month ago and drove her back to Chattanooga (around 75 miles). It didn't miss a lick. When I got it home I started to order some maintenance parts and what not. I replaced the injector return hoses and cleaned out the glow plug holes with a reamer from Mercedessource.com, then installed some fresh plugs. Since I've changed out glow plugs I've had it sitting in my garage with the battery on the charger waiting to get back to clean her up. I've got 5 quarts of Rotella T 15w40 and a new oil filter ready to be put in, in the next few days. (no worries I'm not currently using this as a driver). Interior- The carpets, and floor mats are going to need some attention, but other than that everything is in pretty nice shape. The dash does have some cracks but they are (very) minimal. All windows (other than the drivers front just recently?) and sunroof work flawlessly. The seats are all in GREAT condition. Oh, just to add I took the mats out to clean them so that is why they are not present in the pictures. Oops. I have also been told that the 120mph speedo is a more desirable option. Exterior- The paint needs work. The clear is coming off in multiple areas. There is some rust behind the quarter window on the drivers side. And one hole smaller than the size of a dime. There is also a touch of rust on the driver side wheel-well but just on the lip. It is just pitting; no rot going through the sheet-metal. I checked under the body and the rubber coating is still present, and everything looks good. (I'm new to the w123 so I'm saying all they with limited knowledge.. but I'm happy to check anything you ask about). Also the hood is rigged with a clothes hanger ATM which admittedly looks horrible, but a new piece to fix the problem is on the way and should be ready by the end of the auction. Mechanical- The engine is at 96,031 but may slightly go up over this week if anyone is interested in test driving. When I was doing maintenance under the hood I managed to mess up some of the vacuum lines so there are some issues there, but I have ordered a new main line and that should take care of a good deal of the problems I would imagine. If you know anything about the 300d then you know a lot of things including the door locks, transmission, engine cut off, and various others are controlled via vacuum pressure. The AC isn't working I don't think. It will come on and air blows out the vents but it's not cool. The story I got from the previous (2nd) owner was that a lady had purchased the car new in Lebanon, TN. She drove it until the early 90's then when the AC went out she took it to the repair shop. Apparently she didn't like the quoted price because she let it sit for some time rather than having it fixed. The second owner bought it, performed some maintenance and registered the car in 09'. He said that he maid regular trips from the Nashville, TN area to Birmingham, Al. I did a carfax on the vehicle before I purchased it and the story seems to add up. Ebay now offers a car check through one of their services for free too. A low mileage 300d can go for a nice chunk of change. This one does indeed need work, but you can get yourself a deal here and with a little work have a quite valuable car for less than the already restored ones are going for. I hate to let her go because I know it's a great car with tons of potential.. or a good daily driver as is.. but I just bought a Volvo 240 so the 300d needs a new owner. If you have any questions at all please feel free to ask!
