shadow27 Store HERE IS AN AWESOME RIDE! Here is a 1974 Dodge Challenger Rallye. The car runs and drives, starts and stops but would need a total restoration for show. HISTORY: This car was purchased new by 19 year old Daniel J Dippel of Sheboygan, WI on 2-28-1974 at Seefeld Dodge of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He traded in his 1968 Chevrolet Bel-Air on this awesome car. (I still have the original Motor Vehicle Purchase Contract from 1974, Owners manual, Window sticker, CAR INVOICE from Seefeld, and a bunch of cool original stuff that was in the glove box when the car was new. (Things like 74 Action Accents A "Message from your Chrysler Man In Detroit" Change of Owner Card, Consumer Info Sheet, (stopping distance, Acceleration and Passing etc) It even has a very nice original Broadcast Sheet/Build Sheet included AS WELL as an undiscovered Broadcast Sheet still hiding behind the back seat! (I will leave that honor to the next caretaker of this awesome car) I spoke with Dan last year and he is still around! He was pleased to hear his car is still around! He even sent me an original pic that I printed out from approx 1974-1975! The car was sporting some road wheels at the time and was looking good! He is really cool guy and was a pleasure to talk to. He said he traded in the car in approx 1977 on a new Cadillac. The next owners listed are John and Elaine Neckuly from Campbellsport, WI. They owned the car from approx March 30th 1977 until approx June 1989. I did not look up these owners so I do not have much history of the car at this point but do have some paperwork etc from the time and YES all the paperwork and pictures are included. The next owner was a local car guy named Randy Abig. He purchased this car in approx June 1989. (again all dates are approx) Between 1992 and 1993 Randy totally went through this car and I personally think he did a great job! He converted it from a 318 automatic to a cool Pistol Grip 4-speed! You would never know the car was an automatic unless you read the numbers. I think he did a great job! I was purchased this car from HIS girlfriend last year. She said the engine and trans were from "an early 1970s 340 Dodge Dart" He got the car restored and ready JUST IN TIME for the 1992 or 1993 Mopar Nationals! There is over $8K in receipts from Randy in 1993 and he did most of the work himself! I have a pic of the engine being completely gone through. She said it was built to go fast and YES, it still does! They made the trip to the NATS in style and made it back to Wisconsin with no problem! There is even some ticket stubs from the drag strip from back in the day and a bunch of receipts. This is one of the MOST WELL DOCUMENTED cars I have ever seen! There is a ton of paperwork that goes with it and YES it is all included! Tragically Randy was killed in a car crash in 1993. His girlfriend kept the car from then until I purchased it last year. The car was not driven a lot since the mid 1990s. It sat near a main highway in her driveway for a couple years in the summer. EVERY Mopar guy and gal in the area tried to buy it but the car was never for sale. I feel lucky and honored that I was able to purchase the car last summer from Randys girlfriend. WHATS BEEN DONE: When I got the car, it had not been regularly driven in a number of years. I had it hauled over to an old school muscle car friends shop. He is an old school muscle car guy who is a career mechanic. He had a shop in Chicago in the early 1980s and was always well known for working on cool cars. I knew he could handle the job. I invested over $4K into parts and labor not including the original purchase price I bought the car for. I had a ton of new parts installed including a new gas tank, sending unit, gas tank straps, Edelbrock Carburetor, Holley fuel pump, water pump, radiator, thermostat, hoses, etc, new brake calipers, hoses, rotors, pads, etc, new clutch set, had the flywheel resurfaced, new battery, and a bunch more stuff that I probably forgot. I bought some cool 15" Rallye wheels for all 4 corners and bought some cool white lettered tires for it and had them installed. I took it in for a wheel alignment as well. It goes down the road nice and straight! There is a TON of time, $$$ blood, sweat, and tears involved in this car just since I bought it! DRIVING THE CAR The car runs and drives, starts and stops. The 340 roars to life and runs pretty good. (It has a lumpy cam in it for more power) The clutch works great (its new) and the transmission shifts properly. The 8 3/4" rearend works like it should with no unusual noises. (I believe it is a "sure grip" but I do not know the ratio. The car goes straight down the road and is a BLAST to drive! The 340 has an amazing amount of POWER for being such a small engine! The clutch pedal itself releases almost all the way to the top and stops just a little before the top. The clutch is completely disengaged but I usually put my foot under it to pop it up all the way. (probably something simple but is noteworthy) This car turns heads everywhere it goes! YOU WILL LOVE driving this car! INTERIOR I was told the interior was restored in the 1990s as well. It has that old look to it but is not bad considering. The bucket seats are in place and are not all ripped up, (they look pretty good) the headliner is in place, the dash is complete but everything shows age. Again, it is not bad though and is respectable. Everything inside is black! I love the Mopar "Tuff Grip" steering wheel! It has a cool 3-speaker dash in place. Someone installed an aftermarket Alpine radio. (one of those cool ones with the light up green front that was nothing less than amazing at the time, needs speakers hooked up) The car does not have all its seat belts. The sunvisors are not ripped but wrinkled. The rear view mirror has black spots. The dash pad has cracks. (very typical) The gauges all seem to work including the cool TACH, speedo, gas, oil, temp, and alt gauges. The clock works when it wants to. Sometimes it works right away, and sometimes it does not. I had the car running today, turned the chrome knob and then the second hand started moving again! The odometer shows 31,362. (I believe 131k) The car starts with the key turned on and by hitting a small switch below the gauges. She said they hooked it up that way so "nobody steals it". She said they also did that in the early 1990s. They also do not have the heater hooked up. She told me "you dont need a heater in a car like this!" The box etc is in place under the dash and the oh so rare rallye heater control is in place! OTHER DRIVEABILITY STUFF The car has manual brakes and power steering. Both seem to work fine. It has a fresh oil and filter change. The headlights, taillights, turn signals, COOL fender top turn signals, are all operable. The car has 3-speed windshield wipers. I hit the switch and they are not working. FRAME AND FLOORS: The frame and floors seem pretty good! I did not see any rust holes. The frame looks good by the main rails, torsion bars, etc. It shows age of course. I did not see any rust holes in the trunk or front floors but they definitely show age. (I TOOK A TON OF PICS be sure to check them all out!) OUTER BODY! The outer body was restored and repainted in the early 1990s. It has the COOL rallye door scoops with the black strobe stripes, AWESOME dual scoop rallye hood, dual outside chrome mirrors, and MORE! Some of the wheel chrome is in place. I picked up a couple used pieces of the chrome that are missing at a swap meet last year and they are in the trunk. OVERALL the body is not bad but shows age. The most noteworthy body item is the passengers side quarter panel. The girl I got the car from said that happened in the late 1990s by another boyfriend. She was super upset. The vinyl top is in place but should eventually be replaced. It is missing a couple of the chrome trim parts on the side by the pass quarter panel. The body has paint scratches, chips, and some bubbles here and there. When I got it, it had some primer spots. I cleaned that all off and had some of the Rallye red paint mixed up and put in a spray can. I touched that up just as it looks way better than primer spots. (no idea why they did that) It looks way better now but is not show quality. There is a rust hole on the top of the front drivers fender. (AGAIN, I TOOK A NEARLY 100 PICS BE SURE TO CHECK THEM ALL OUT!) Most chrome is in place. The glass is all in place. The doors lock with the key like they should as well as the trunk. It even has a locking gas cap with the key. PAPERWORK ETC: The car has a TON of original paperwork that you never find with most muscle cars! It is all included. It has a clean Wisconsin title, matching dash tag, build sheets, window sticker, and so much more. It does not have an underhood "fender" tag. Other than that, this is an amazingly well documented car with full history and a TON of included paperwork. I have exhausted myself trying to be super detailed on the description of this cool car! I encourage you to view all the pics and read the description closely. I have nothing to hide. Please do not come here and nit pick the car. I have tried to be as through as possible. IF you have any further questions, feel free to ASK! I took lots of pics to show you top, bottom, inside, and outside of the car. Again, I have nothing to hide! I took nearly 100 pics so be sure to check them all out and you will see the exact condition of this car. The car runs and moves but I would recommend double checking to make sure all maintainable parts are 100% before you drive it on a regular basis. It goes down the road just fine but I would recommend hauling it home as it has not been regularly driven in years. This is a great classic MOPAR which you can drive and enjoy while restoring or just drive it forever just like it is! On Apr-26-12 at 16:17:50 PDT, seller added the following information: On May-01-12 at 13:08:47 PDT, seller added the following information:HI! Just a couple more things to note. The seats do have a couple splits, carpet is faded etc. The body does have some bubbling here and there as well as scratches, chips, etc. Would need to be restored for show or cruise it just like it is! Also, I took it for a ride yesterday and I believe it is going to need either an Alternator or a Voltage Regulator.(easy fix but is worth noting) Again, not trying to nit pick the car, just like to be as honest as I can. THANK YOU!
