Vehicle Detail

1911 Hupmobile Model 20 Runabout in very good condition. According to the history I was given when I purchased this car, it was restored in the 1950's from a well preserved car. It was subsequently stored in the owner's house for approximately 30 years until the man died and it was purchased from the estate by the person that I acquired it from. I purchased the car in 1998 in Massachusetts. At the time of restoration a GM 12 volt starter was mounted inside the frame and a ring gear was added to the flywheel to make starting easier. The battery is concealed under the driver's seat and a small starter button is mounted on the floorboards. It starts easily and runs very well. It has a Stromberg carburetor and is gravity fed from the gas tank in the rear of the car. The oiling system is the drip type as well as splash in the crankcase. It has a two speed transmission and a clutch. There is a hand operated parking brake, a brass squeeze bulb horn, hand throttle, choke, ignition switch with a removable key, 8 day clock that is working and a speedometer. The speedometer is not working due to not having a cable. I am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the speedometer other than it just needs the cable replaced. I just never got around to it. You aren't going to break the speed limit anyway. The top is in excellent condition and is something you don't always see with these cars. The two cowl lights and tail light are kerosene and the headlights are gas. There is an acetylene tank on the frame on the right side of the car. I have never used the lights and cannot vouch for the fact that they work. You aren't allowed to drive antiques at night anyway. The front tires are the old Firestone NON-SKID tread and are not too good. I have two new ones that go with the car and the back tires are new already installed. The radiator was recently cleaned and checked out and does not leak. Keep in mind that the paint is around 60 years old, so it is not perfect. It shows some crazing and some nicks and scratches, but still shows well. The undercarriage is as clean as the rest of the car. The muffler was just rebuilt also. I just had it out this morning to take the pictures and it ran like a charm.
