Vehicle Detail

Offered here is one of the best looking and extremely drivable examples of a Mercedes 123 chassis model 300 Turbo Diesel 4 door sedan. It is a highly well maintained car and meticulously documented Mercedes has just been recently mechanically and aseptically updated. It features the beautiful dark blue (original color, one repaint) with gold pin striping. As you can see from our pics, the look or the car is simply impressive! This car has no rust and is extremely straight and solid. There are no significant dents and the only area of concern is some small areas where the clear coat is a little discolored. The hood could also use a nice wet sanding and buffing to be a bit shinier. As you can see from the views of the exterior, we are also being pretty picky. The car has been consigned to us from its 2nd owner who has owned the car since it around 1986 (and bought it with approx. 29,000 miles on the odometer). The owner used only two highly rated Mercedes mechanic for many years and one for the past 15. Obviously, the history of the car is well known (the owner is an accountant and excellent documentation on service would be available on request). The following is a list of recent mechanical, operational and aesthetic improvements. Among these were- Newer Goodyear radial tires- Updated brakes- New fuel and oil filters- Water and fuel hoses where needed- Strip and refinish all the alloy wheels (Mercedes paint and clear coat)- Recent full service (oil change and full check up) New Mercedes grill, insert, and grill chrome, Mercedes symbol, Mercedes star hood ornament- New headlight doors- Replacement of headlights and amber fog lights with new or newer units- Full detail of the car exterior and interior- This car has had a lot of work done to make it look nice and even though the paint is a few years old (and could use touch up in spots). It still looks very sharp and is a very usable and dependable car to drive for fun or to work. This is not a show car but turns a lot of heads l lot and this would make a great daily driver. DETAILS- Mileage- 179754 original miles (at the time of the photos, Mar. 20, 2012) Color- Dark Blue paint with gold accent pin-stripes Engine- 3.0 liter five cylinder fuel injected turbo charged diesel 120 horsepower Transmission- four speed automatic Brakes- Dual circuit four wheel disc power assisted w/pad wear indicator. Suspension- Independent front and rear w/coil springs, diagonal swing axle, anti-roll control bar and hydraulic load leveling for the rear. . Other features- MB Tex vinyl interior (tan) with front bucket seats and very nice (and expensive) cream colored lambs wool seat covers, Air Conditioning (which blows cold) and good heat, Power steering, power windows, electric antennae, original Becker AM/FM Stereo Radio with cassette, real Zebrano wood trim in excellent condition, excellent black dashboard, dual headlights with amber driving lights, chrome plated aluminum bumpers w. rubber strips, like new Mercedes alloy 14” wheels and newer Goodyear rated radial tires, recent heavy duty battery. Recent hoses, brakes and service work. NOTE- In 1985 Mercedes 300-d turbo used a lower rear end gear ratio (approx. 2:90) which gave it superior fuel mileage and improved highway cruising ability over older models. 1985 is also the last year for this model and according to many, it is the best and most desirable year to have. Condition- BODY- Excellent body and paint recently did (around 2009). The paint is such a deep blue, that in some of our pictures it almost looks black! There are some very small chips and light discoloration on the hood. There are one or two very small dents in the side. This is Very good to excellent paint job with the exception of some chips and light scratches. It has (as you can see) a very straight body with excellent shine and a great presentation. This is as nice looking a 300-D as you will see…anywhere! TRIM- All chrome trim and side moldings in good to excellent condition, new grill, insert, trim, new headlight doors, newt Mercedes grill symbol, very good front and rear bumpers (some discoloration on top) nice window moldings, excellent mirrors and windshield and rear window trim. Many trim pieces replaced or reconditioned within the past few weeks- INTERIOR- Overall excellent condition- excellent black dash board, nice headliner and door panels, rear seat excellent with mild discoloration in the center, passengers seat very good with some mild discoloration, drivers seat with a few tears in the bottom (both seats have lamb covers). The seats are firm and very comfortable to sit in. Wood trim on dash is excellent as well as the center console. Excellent interior chrome and all switches and gauges are solid and crisp. All the carpets are in excellent condition. TRUNK AREA- The inside of the trunk is very clean, dry and undamaged. Car has a full size spare and the original jack. ENGINE COMPARTMENT- Unusually clean (especially for a diesel) with no heavy oil deposits, battery spray or discoloration. Engine and wiring are very clean and well maintained. (see pics). This engine has always been meticulously maintained and it looks it and sounds like it. This car is very unusual because most 300-D’s of this vintage are really in average or very worn condition. This car drives great and looks great. The suspension is tight, the steering solid, the engine is smooth and has great torque and acceleration and it has no problem keeping up at highway speeds. This car runs like a car with 70k on it and is incredibly economical. It’s amazingly fun to drive and has great brakes, cool AC and nice heat. The transmission shifts as well as any 300-D we have ever driven. For those or you who don’t know, this is car has fully independent front and rear suspension and four wheel disc brakes. It handles and stops like a four door sports car! If you need a car for going to work or daily transportation, this unusual dark blue 123 car will do the job. It’s safe (one of the safest cars ever built) and has legendary user lifespan (5 cylinder Mercedes diesels go 500k or better when properly maintained. Because it predates complex electrical or technical gadgetry, there is simply not that much to go wrong with it. It is not dependant on complex brains and programming to make it run. You will not be disappointed in the way it looks and drives. The car is kept under a cover and in a secure climate controlled garage in Bethesda, Md. Come take a look and drive it if you’re close enough. It’s worth the trip! According to the owner, this car averages 31 mpg or more on the highway and 25 in the city. Its top speed is well over 95 mph and it cruises very comfortably at 70 mph. If you are close to the D.C. area then we encourage you to come see the car in person. As we said before, it is currently located in a private parking garage under a cover and has been lightly driven for quite a while. This is a 30 year old car this year and in most states it will qualify for very inexpensive antique or vintage vehicle tags. Insurance for this car (according to the current owner) is less than $120.00 per year (from Hagerty) and we estimate under current fuel prices that it costs about 14 cents a mile to operate. This is also (obviously) a prime candidate for bio-diesel conversion and information about this is available on the internet everywhere. Good luck with your bidding and we are confident that you will not be disappointed with the condition or the mechanical soundness of this classic Mercedes 300-D.
