Vehicle Detail
1989 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas with a Bonus The Good. This car runs Great and is still as smooth as the day it was new. It is straight and still turns heads. It is still a very sound, drivable car. The Bad. It needs some cosmetic attention on the outside and some tlc and refurbishment on the inside. I just dont have time to complete the job. This car went through a minor restoration about 4 Years ago. It was repainted and had wheels/tires replaced. Headlights were upgraded to Hella H4. There is minor rust on this car. Only external rust is in the hood as shown in the pictures. The interior needs work. The leather is cracked. Seat covers would work. The clear coat on the roof is going bad. The paint is cracked under the front bumper. The paint could be re-shot easily a Maaco for cheap. The battery is also not holding a charge. The drivers seat need the front bolts replaced. It does not move but it kinda rocks when pushed back. It has a Kenwood stereo with single CD and Sirius Radio. The driver's door handle was replaced last year with an OEM replacement. Not Cheap! All handles work fine. One rear door must have had the rod come loose because it wont open. Power locks are temperamental. They work most of the time but get out of sync occasionally. Typical 88-89 problem. Trick is to never unlock one by hand without the power on. This car had been in the family since new. My wife bought the car in 1989 with her first husband. It was maintained by Laurel Jaguar in MD and had all major problem parts replaced or repaired by them. I have been diving the car since 2004 and have never had any issues with it. The rear end begins to hum after about 90 minutes of highway driving. It may only need the rear end fluid replaced. I occasionally hear a mild clunk when it is put in gear. The ODO reads 29,022. The gauge cluster was replaced in 2000. I think the actual miles are around 185,000. It will be sold as True Miles Unknown This car has been a local driver/secondary vehicle only. I have only put 11,000 miles on it since 3/16/2004 when I bought it. The rear brakes/calipers and rear struts were replaced about 4,000 miles ago for PA inspection in 2011. The rear suspension airbags were taken away years ago and replaced by Jaguar with struts. I think it would pass inspection today. Lots of warning signals are on. One of the problems with these cars is all the electronic sensors and gadgets added in 1988. The brakes are fine but it says "brake pad low". It says a light is out because some were rewired in the trunk. I dont know whats up with the check engine. I have not run the car regularly for a year and it was not on then. I figure that a sensor must have gone bad somewhere. I drove the car today and it ran great. The brakes were slightly soft. They may need bled. It still sounds and runs smoothly. It still has the gusto it always had. This is a good solid car that runs great. I travel all the time so it just sits. It is time for someone new to love this beast. It has been good to our family for 23 years. I am starting this auction at $500 dollars. High bid gets it. It just needs to leave my driveway. Remember that it needs a battery. There is a notary right down the road that can transfer the title so you can drive her home. Remember, I have not driven it much over the last year so it probably should not go cross country or anything without some refreshing. I will need an immediate deposit of $200 on auction close with the balance and vehicle removal to happen within 7 days of auction close. It's also for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells. Let me know if you have any questions. Email me if you want to come look at and drive the car. ****Change*****Bonus: If the auction reaches $900, I will include a full set of doors, fenders, and all extra parts. Any lower than that, I would be better off more selling it all for scrap price.
