The Marti Report says this 1971 Mustang started life in Dearborn as a Bright Red Sportsroof with a vermilion red vinyl interior and a 302 -2V coupled to a 3 speed. Numerous changes were made to convert the car to a Mach 1 clone.
In the mid 90’s the car was fitted with a 351 cubic inch V-8, a 750 Holley double pumper carburetor and a mild cam. The transmission was changed to a T-10 4 speed and the rear to a 9 inch with 411 gears. The car has power steering and an electric cooling fan.
The exterior was painted burgundy and the interior was changed to all black vinyl with high back bucket seats.
It has new Continental Contacts tire on aftermarket wheels.
The rear spoiler and Mach 1 graphics complete the transformation of this sportsroof.
We purchased the car in 2007 with plans to correct the minor rust spots and repaint the car. Other priorities kept us from doing the work.
The car needs paint, as the photos show:
Driver’s side above the door - paint cracks and rust
Driver’s side rear quarter panel - rust under the paint
Passenger side top of door - rust under the paint
Passenger door bottom - the body filler cracked, some rust
The underside of the car does not show any rust through but there are signs of previous patching.
The stitching on the driver’s seat is breaking, the dashboard is cracked and the rear seat belts are missing. The headliner is in good condition but the molding is off at the rear quarters.
All of the instruments, switches and the aftermarket radio are in working order.
The car starts easily and is in running order.
