Vehicle Detail

Brief History: I purchased this car five years ago from an aeronautical engineer in Los Angeles. He was a very meticulous and detailed guy and had a file two inches thick that came with the car. His notes showed that the original owner was located in the San Francisco area and the engine had been overheated, at which point a factory replacement engine (530i) was installed and they rolled the odometer back to zero (0). The odometer currently reads 60,000 miles. It has the original West German windshield, which is perfect, which leads me to believe that the approximate 60,000 miles are correct. Since I've owned the car: I stripped the car down to just the drive train, removed glass, interior, chrome, etc. Then had the car soda blasted down to bare metal and immediately primed. I found a minimal amount of rust on both lower corners of the fenders behind the front tires and in the leading and trailing edges of the rocker covers, which looked like it was from dirt getting trapped in that area and holding moisture. There were a couple other small areas around the trunk gasket, again from moisture getting trapped underneath. All problem areas were cut out and new metal welded in, and while I was at it, I also deleted the side marker lights since I think it cleans up the look of the car a bit. This CS is very very solid and one of the more rust-free cars you'll find! New Weber 32/36 DGEV carburetors. Rebuilt alternator Rebuilt power steering pump. Later model a/c compressor Blows cold air! Wood work is all redone in walnut. I used the same heavy duty clear coat as was applied over the paint to finish the wood. New upholstery and carpet All gages including the clock work. All chrome and bright work redone at Sherm's Plating here in Sacramento Some things that should be addresses at some point: It has a later model transmission installed by previous owner, but when they installed it they didn't install the backup light switch or the gear indicator on the steering wheel column (I have the switch, just never put it on). When you put it in Park it doesn't engage so you have to use the parking brake. Maybe an adjustment I don't know. Like a lot of CS owners I planned on putting in a 5 speed so I wasn't worried about it. Since I never drive in the rain I decided not to replace the door weather striping. Something the next owner can do I suppose, but I didn't want to put the old stuff back in. The lever on the passenger seat doesn't work so the back doesn't lean forward. Driver's side works fine. Night vision / Day vision lever doesn't work. Cracked tail light lens. I had a blow out on the front drivers side tire and it scratched the paint a little. I'll send with the car the extra paint left over from painting the car if you'd like to have it repaired. It just didn't bother me enough to have it done. I've owned this car for 5 years now I would not be afraid to drive this car across country. I drove it to Northern Idaho and back from Sacramento and had no problems at all, in fact the drive was the best part of the trip. I hate to sell my baby but I'm moving and won't have a garage to park the car in. I wouldn't be able to sleep knowing the car is outside so I've decided to sell it and hope to own another one in the future. I encourage anyone serious in purchasing the car to come see it in person or have it inspected by a knowledgeable BMW shop.
