Vehicle Detail
I bought this car in 1981 as a project after finishing Graduate school. The car has been garage kept since that time. The car was originally brown with tan interior. When I first bought it the motor ran fine and the trans shifted properly. There is no overdrive or a/c. To begin the renovation I had new rockers and some minor body work done, some flooring replaced and the car repainted in white (OEW). The original frame had some serious suspension problems worsened by rust and rather than try to patch it I purchased a replacement frame, had it gusseted in many of the places these cars need strengthening and had some major pieces welded in of a much heavier guage of metal, then removed the body from the original frame and mounted it on the new frame. Notice the picture of the rear suspension and you will see the weld quality and some of the frame improvements. At that time new front and rear springs were installed and the rubber insulators between the frame and body were replaced. The car now sits on a strong stable frame. The upper and lower ball joints and tie rod ends were replaced. The motor and transmission were not rebuilt . The clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing were replaced with new components and the slave cylinder rebuilt. A new fiberglass trans cover is in the car; the new fasteners for it are in a bag in the trunk. Other than some minor surface rust, the car is solid with straight sheet metal. Most of the work was done at least 25 years ago and the car has been garage kept at my home since 1987. Absolutely no rodent problems ever. As many of you know how children, home construction, property maintenance can all serve to delay a project and now age has set in so that I am no longer looking for a project and have really self-confessed that I can't finish this project. Several years ago I thought I would put a new battery in and start it up. Actually, surprisingly, the car started but one of the carbs leaked fuel. The dripping fuel ignited on a wiper towel and although this all sounds very serious we were able to quickly extinguish it. You may notice some char marks around the carb but it really didn't do any serious damage. Given the age of this car and the relatively inexpensive price of a new wire loom, I would suggest one be installed. I had the dash reveneered and I think the dash wiring should be gone over. Let me try to recap what has been done... New used frame purchased, strengthened, installed with a number of heavy duty upgrades all professionally welded. New springs front and rear. New tie rods and upper and lower ball joints installed. Floor boards repaired (welded). New trans cover not fastened down but included. Dash reveneered. New stainless steel wheel rings (still in the box) included. New windshield. Bumpers rechromed. New exhaust system installed. No rust in trunk or spare tire well. Some small new parts included such as shifter boot and gaiter. New TR6 shop manual included, see picture. What it needs to finish...first of all the carbs need to be sorted out. Will need an alignment (not done after new parts installed). Would make a lot of sense to install a new wire loom which would serve to sort out all electrical circuits. Needs a complete interior and convertible top. Needs new tires. Needs engine detailed. I offer this sound, restorable TR6 project at an opening bid of a modest $1500 without reserve. PA title in hand. Best of luck bidding. Car is available for pick up at 19454. Buyer to arrange any shipping.
