Vehicle Detail

Im offering my 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit truck for sale. Only ten pictures with this auction, but if you'd like to see 100+ high res photos that Ive uploaded, there is a link to my Picasa album farther down in this description. Yellow with a brown interior, 5 speed manual transmission, 121,290 actual, documented miles. Its been a Texas truck from its birth until a couple years ago when it came to the Midwest, since its relocation it has been garaged and not driven in rain or snow, so it has never seen salt. 99.9% rust free, there is only a very small patch on the underside of the truck, very small, easily repaired (see pic/video) I have owned this truck for a couple years and have only put about 1,200 miles on it, a few months ago I noticed there was a little wetness on the injection pump, so I ordered an OEM Bosch rebuild kit and had a local VE pump expert rebuild it. At the same time I also replaced all 4 glow plugs with OEM Bosch, a new starter solenoid and a new Duralast Gold battery (still under warranty) The inj pump is now dry and the truck runs like a top, it starts right up cold, runs great, sounds great, and drives fantastic. Since the injection pump rebuild its got a bit of blue smoke at startup (unburnt diesel), for about five or ten seconds until it gets a little warm. It never did this before the pump rebuild, so I suspect that the injection pump static timing needs to tweaked with the needle gauge tool. Our local shop here (Sir Diesel Co.) quoted $90 for timing. This truck has seen extensive updating and restoring- the interior has been redone both seats and headliner, exterior/interior repainted (although the attention to detail and quality I would have liked to see on a truck this clean just isnt there, regarding the paint job) In November 2006 the engine and transmission were both completely torn down and rebuilt by Westside Diesel in Fort Worth, Texas, they also rebuilt the front and rear brakes and entire suspension and steering systems. They also completely rewired the truck. This job was $2800 and combined with my other receipts and invoices for parts and service I have over $5,600 in documented work and parts for the truck. Its all fairly recent, all within the last 5 to 6 years. Bosch filters are used throughout the truck, it has a plug-in block heater, spare tire and original jack. There are four brand new tires mounted on BMW rims, great looking rims, style 77 I believe, that came spec'd on the1979-1983 BMW 320i. I put new BMW emblems on all four as the old ones were a bit faded. The brakes are strong and well-balanced, the steering and suspension are tight and responsive and the slightly wider offset of the BMW rims give the caddy a wider stance for great handling. Truck has a sprayed in bedliner, no shock tower rust whatsoever, new muffler and tailpipe, and a clean and clear Indiana title in my name. It is not without its faults though- the hot/cold temperature selector knob is broken off, a fair amount of small dings, the coolant temperature sensor needs replaced, the dash has a few cracks underneath the dash cover, the top of the drivers window has a chip in it (doesnt affect its sealing) and it could use a new oil pan gasket, it leaves about a drip every other day. These problems are pretty small and minor and are easily/cheaply fixed. Please see the Picasa web pictures Ive uploaded!! Also some of the photos have a caption explaining what youre looking at, so pay attention to those. heres the link: https://picasaweb.google.com/108592734019829103745/1981VolkswagenRabbitCaddy There is 116 high res photos so you will get a very good sense of the trucks condition. Im selling it because I have three vehicles and need the garage space (as you can see in a few of the photos, pardon the organized mess) I rarely drive the caddy and have only picked up a bookshelf from Lowes once, the only hauling Ive done with it. I would like it to go to someone who will use it more than I will, or commute with it!! It gets about 48 city/53 highway mpgs, phenomenal mileage. Please feel free to ask any and all questions or see the vehicle locally (it is also for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early) please send offers for my consideration (the worst I can say is no, but please no insulting low ball offers) The terms of sale will be a $250 paypal deposit due within 48 hrs of auction end and the balance due in cash at the time of pickup. I would much prefer cash, however if you wish to pay the balance with Cashiers or Treasurer's check, you must pick the truck up during my banks business hours and we will have to both go to the bank and verify the cashiers check before I sign the title. I am happy to help arrange shipping for the vehicle if you live far away. I will add to this description if anything is pointed out that I missed.. Thanks for looking!
