Vehicle Detail
1979 Pontiac Trans AM - Y84 Special Edition WS6 – Special Handling Package Black & Gold - Smokey and the Bandit Style with T-Tops I bought this car a little over a year ago and have invested about $6,000 in it since then. I took it directly to my mechanic who went over the car and gave us a list of things that needed done. My son and I then proceeded to replaced things such as the coil over shocks, fuel lines, brake lines, engine sensors, removed the A/C compressor (I still have it if someone wants to put it back in), removed the cloth seats (Still have them if someone wants them, good shape) and put in the leather seats, We had the floor pans redone (Texas car but had a few pinholes), new undercoating, I had the the carb rebuilt, Also had a transmission shop rebuild the TH-350 Automatic transmission and installed a shift kit along with a new Torque converter, they cleaned and inspected the posi-traction rear end and refilled with posi-traction oil, I had an Audio shop Install a nice Pioneer AM/FM radio, CD player with matched Pioneer rear speakers, We put in Sequential brake-turn, signals on the rear like the old Cougars had (These look real nice and get a lot of attention), new plug wires and distributor cap, Chrome TransAm Valve covers, steering wheel, a few gold metal turned items to dress up the interior, repaired and replaced wiring inside such as foot well lights, dome lights, power trunk release, new battery, many other small things such as repairing headlight adjusters and aiming headlights, high beam switch adjustment, rear license plate light replacement, dress up engine compartment etc. When I got this car it already had an Edelbrock mild cam (I have a copy of the spec sheet) installed in it. The Engine is the Olds 403 (6.6 Liter) After my mechanic redid the carb he estimated about 250 HP. It will spin the rear wheels and the posi-traction DOES work just fine. Tires are in good shape but I wanted to install the original style BFGoodrich T/A radials and never got around to it. I am guessing about 80% tread remaining. The previous owner sent the window sticker as well as some Pontiac Historical Society (PHS) documentation. It states that the car was built as a Black and Gold WS6, Y84 Trans AM but then someone painted it blue (For his daughter) the guy I bought it from returned it to it’s original black with a very nice paint job and new decals, Bird and striping. I love this car but my son is ready to move on to another project : ( he wants to work on an older Mustang. I would love to sell this car to a good home and someone who can finish what I have started. It is not a perfect car, more for driving than collecting, but it gets lots of attention wherever I drive it. It is always garage kept and cleaned after every outing. Odometer says 33,000 miles but I can not verify that. I have a lot of parts that will go with it if wanted. I started selling some of them on E-bay and it is amazing how sought after they are. Whatever is left when you pick up the car is yours. If you need it shipped it will be at your expense. I will help as much as I can but the buyer makes the arrangements and pays the shipper directly. I will put whatever will fit into the trunk but some shippers want it empty. Bid…Win..and then we will talk!!!
