1987 BMW 325i Convertible
This is another one of our famous no reserve eBay auctions for a nice BMW E30 convertible. This car was traded at our dealership and we have gone over it from front to back. We installed a brand new convertible top and weatherstripping and serviced the car. It has very nice newer Michelin tires, fresh oil service, new clutch slave cylinder, new sway bar end links and other parts. The timing belt was done about 15,000 miles ago as well. This car isn't a show car but it is a good solid low mileage 325i that would make a good driver or restoration candidate.
History
I do not know a whole lot about the history of this car except that the previous owner stated that it had been in the family since it was new. The last 10-15 years it has pretty much just stayed in the garage except for occasional drives. It is obvious that it has been fairly well cared for. Mechanical
This BMW runs and drives very nice. It recently went on a 300 mile road trip with no issues. The engine runs great. The transmission shifts smoothly and the clutch works well with no slipping or funny noises. The rear differential does have a slight bearing noise at the front of the housing but the oil looks good and the noise is slight. The tires are matching Michelin's with at least 80% tread life remaining on the front and on the rear. The brakes are very good with lots of life left. The air conditioning compressor does seem to engage, but the air doesn't blow cold. It probably needs a charge or some other attention. The brake lamp light is illuminated but all the lights work as far as we can tell. The radio works but the power antenna does not. All the power windows work fine and the glass is good. We just serviced this vehicle and it has just passed a Virginia State inspection. I woudn't be afraid to drive it anywhere.
Exterior
This car looks very nice from a little distance. The paint is glossy and smooth, but it is getting thin a few places especially around the sharp edges. There are some light scratches and small chips here and there. For a 25 year old car it actually looks pretty good and would be a good candidate for a full restoration. The wheels have some corrosion in the recesses. We did install a brand new top and new weatherstripping. It doesn't leak at all. I would rate the exterior of this vehicle at a 6 out of 10.
Interior
The interior of this BMW is nice and clean as well. The seats and carpet are clean but the seats are showing some wear. There are no rips or anything but the stitching is coming apart on the edge of the drivers seat bolster as well as some surface cracking in the leather. The dash is not cracked. We have one key, floor mats, and the owners manuals. I would rate the interior a 7 out of 10.
