Vehicle Detail

I purchased this pickup in 2003 (VIN: F10V4K20591) to help fill my retirement time. The condition of the vehicle at that time was indicative of its age and usage in an urban and farm environment. My objective was to rehabilitate it, utilizing all of the original body parts and sheet metal that I could and to customize it as several of my friends were doing to their vehicles. Therefore, this labor of love is not a “frame-off restoration” but rather a rehabilitation and customization of the pickup. The pickup has been garaged the entire time of this wonderful journey and I’m reluctantly parting with it due to health problems and moving into smaller living accommodations. When I purchased it, I was told the pickup's original engine had been replaced with a 292 cubic inch Y-Block V8. Reportedly this engine had a bore and stroke of 3.75 inches by 3.296 inches with an 8.5:1 compression ratio, generating 193 horsepower at 4,400 rpm with 280 pound-feet of torque at 2,600 rpm. These engines came out in 1955 and were used in Thunderbirds, Mercury and high-end Fords. While the odometer currently shows about 1,200 miles, I have no idea how many miles were on the pickup or the engine when I got it. The engine is strong and has performed magnificently for me. The rehabilitation involved lowering the body approximately 3 ½ to 4 inches as well as the removal and reinstallation of various deteriorated parts of the body. Welds were ground smooth and some Bondo was used to facilitate the blending of the weld in preparation for painting. Likewise, some Bondo was used on minor dents in the original body where it was not possible to remove them. The pickup is painted Inferno Red and the paint can be described as about a “5 foot “ paint job as the blemishes and nicks, if any, are relatively minor in nature. Paperwork, if any, related to the following customization efforts go with the sale: 1. New front and rear springs and rear shocks. 2. New kingpins. 3. Toyota 4-runner power-steering sector. 4. Bear-claw door latches with remote electronic door openers and manual emergency release. 5. Customized dash-gauge panel with all new gauges. 6. New Chrysler Town & Country bucket seats, center console, seatbelts and shoulder harnesses. 7. “Dropdown” stainless steel 12V battery box (precludes removal of cabin carpet for access). 8. Ididit chrome steering column and column support, with tilt and self-cancelling turn signals. 9. Grant chromed spoke, wood-ring steering wheel. 10. Kenwood KCD-MP332 AM/FM/CD/MP3s/WMAs satellite-radio ready with hidden electronic antenna. 11. Removed original 17 gal fuel cell under pax compartment/added a 20 gal aluminum fuel cell under rear box bed. 12. Converted column shift to a 3-speed (plus reverse) Hurst shifter, located on the floor near right leg. 13. Air-tique factory air, model UN-109HC installed. 14. New 4-tube radiator with thermostatically controlled electric radiator cooling fan. 15. New carpet and custom upholstery, with sculptured door panels, kick-panels, rear panel and roof in gray tweed. 16. New wood floor pickup box, with custom built tailgate having plunger latches and inside straps. 17. Aluminum step plates on running boards. 18. Heavy duty trailer hitch. 19. Rear turn signals, stoplights, taillights “frenched” into a panel under tailgate. 20. Added a tilt hood and “shaved” it and the doors 21. Re-chromed the grill. The only known issues are: · A small indentation on one piece of wood in the bed (see photo). · Three 3/8” or smaller chips on the left side and two on the right side running board; one on the inside of the tailgate. · The driver’s side window works well but has a “catch” about half-way up. · The alternator bearing makes a small noise. · The remote door opener on the passenger side is intermittent in low battery condition. · The transmission does have a leak that produces 5 - 6 drips per month (see photo). Photo number 24 is the pickup prior to it's rehabilitation and customization. Arrangements can be made to inspect this beautiful customized 1954 F-100 pickup.
