Vehicle Detail
This is a relisting of a nice red and white 1956 Oldsmobile Super 88 hardtop in central Indiana. The previous winning bidder was unable to complete the purchase. Please carefully review the photos and write-up. If you still have questions, call 317 691 2596. The car is available for inspection at the Kramer Motor Co. on Broadway in Shelbyville IN.Mechanically, this car is cruise-in ready. It handles the way non-PS/PB cars did in the ‘50s, but it starts, runs and stops like a much newer vehicle. One of Indy’s most highly regarded hot rod shops replaced the original Olds engine a few hundred miles ago with a fresh 350cid Chevrolet engine fitted with an Edelbrock intake and carburetor, along with a THM350 transmission, aluminum radiator, electric cooling fan and dual exhaust system. Brakes and tires are nearly new. The underbody is very clean. Those famous Olds spinner hubcaps are original. The body shows no signs of collision damage and appears largely original. Except for the spotless stainless steel trim along the tops of the doors, bright metal is beginning to speckle. Both front and rear bumpers are straight and dent-free, but would benefit from re-chroming if the object were to make this a show car. Exterior surfaces are rust-free. White paint looks to be original except for a dinner plate-size retouched spot in the middle of the hood. Red surfaces appear to have been repainted. There’s a short hairline crack in the right wing glass and some cloudiness on the lower edge of right side window. Otherwise the glass is fine.Inside, that signature Olds instrumental panel is like new. The clock still works. There’s a spotlight. The radio appears original, but is disconnected. Steering wheel, turn signal lever and horn ring are premo. The odometer shows 36,000 miles, but true mileage is unknown. The carpet is newer but needs to be cleaned and retucked. Vinyl seatbacks look almost too nice to be original. Seat cushions have been re-upholstered.The carpeted trunk is clean and bare except for the spare tire.Altogether, this car is a true diamond in the rough. As is, it’s ready to roll. With a little TLC, it could be a show car.
