Vehicle Detail

I have decided to auction off my pride and joy to focus on other projects. Its a 1970 Dodge Charger Daytona Clone project. The car started as a Dodge Charger 500 that sat in a backyard for 7 years. I was finally able to purchase the car after repeatedly bugging the owner to sell it. He was planning on restoring it someday but had owned the car for 12 years and never got around to it. I've always loved Daytona's and Superbird's, but everyone knows they are beyond reach for the average person. So the next best thing is to clone one. It still needs a lot of work, its far from finished. The Charger has the original 383 and 727 automatic trans. I recently installed an edelbrock torker manifold and edelbrock 650 carb. The heads have been rebuilt this past summer, I installed flowmaster 3" exhaust from the manifolds back. A new aluminum radiator was installed and electronic ignition. The car originally had A/C, its there, just doesn't work right now. I removed the broken hoses and lines just to clean it up. I installed a disk brake kit on the front and replaced ball joints, bushings and everything else up front. The 18" wheels and tires are new last summer. There is a new reproduction fuel tank, sending unit and trunk floor. The sub-frames are spotless, the whole underside of the car still has the undercoating so there is no rust. The body has a few holes in the usual places, lower quarters, lower back window, and the underside of the hood. The interior is ruined, it was left in the trunk for the 7 years it sat and the trunk leaked and destroyed all the door panels, dash panels, seat belts etc... The front seats are out of a monte carlo ss, they are powered and black leather. The rear seat is the stock seat. I put in new retractable seat belts in front and have a couple of lap belts for the rear. The headliner is torn, the rear package tray is also bad. I do have most of the interior trim pieces and the original dash pad that is cracked. The speedo doesn't work, I put in a new cable but it must need a new gear in the tranny. Most of the other gauges do not work as well, they are there though. The glass is not perfect but no cracks. The transmission does leak from the pan, and the power steering box leaks also. The Daytona kit is from Stinger fiberglass, its not perfect, it needs the usual fiberglass prep work. The headlight brackets were custom made for me out of steel as were the Z brackets and wing braces. The fiberglass parts just wouldn't work well or hold up. The headlights do pivot but are not motorized. I just prop them open with vise grips inside the nose and leave them up. It wouldn't take much to make them function though. I do have the nose to fender gaskets but just haven't gotten around to installing them. I do not have any of the original grill pieces to convert it back to stock. I do not have a rear window plug, never planned on putting one in, I like the way it looks as is. It has really nice patina on the paint and has a ton of potential. I drove this car almost every day last year up until November and it turned heads everywhere I went. I'm sure there is a lot that I have not mentioned but if you have any questions, feel free to call. Matt, 319-423-1555. I live in Atkins Iowa so if you want to look at the car you are more than welcome to. I have set a reserve and will not disclose it, I have a lot of time, money and sweat invested in this car. Its far from perfect but its a really nice project for someone to finish up. Please don't ask if I have any parts for sale, this car runs and drives well and will not be parted out. Serious bidders only, no tire kickers. Ebay charges a small fortune to sell a car so please take this seriously. On Jan-17-12 at 07:26:37 PST, seller added the following information: Please don't call me and offer to trade for anything other than CASH! I appreciate all the interest but I don't want to just talk shop either, if you have questions about the car or want to make me a cash offer, call me and we will talk, leave a message if I don't answer, I work odd hours. Thanks! Also, I do have the build sheets for this car. On Jan-19-12 at 12:43:18 PST, seller added the following information: I have lowered the reserve considerably. I want this car to sell.
