Unfortunately, with their OUTRAGEOUS price tags, owning one wasn't possible for me. That said, I went the route of buying a clean Discovery and building an off-road capable, every day driver.I purchased it about a year and a half ago as a very clean and well cared for truck. The vehicle presently has 88k miles on it. I want to emphasize the fact that this is NOT a beater off-road truck. It has been treated like and well cared for as the $45k original price tag luxury vehicle it is. I LOVE this truck and will miss it dearly, but with the purchase of a new home, and a longer commute, this is no longer the right vehicle for me. If I had the money to keep is as a second vehicle/toy, I would in a heartbeat.Everything that has ever gone wrong with this truck has been professionally serviced at Lucky 8 Land Rovers (lucky8llc.com), a shop specializing in Land Rover parts and service. Earlier in the year the engine suffered a slipped cylinder sleeve and therefore had to be rebuilt. Rather than replacing the lower end with another potentially problematic 4.6 (and praying that the same thing doesn't happen again), the shop suggested a 4.0 (which doesn't have the terrible track record of the 4.6). That's the route I decided to go. At that time I had the heads machined, head gaskets re-done, the old oil pump and oil pressure sensor replaced, and all new plugs and wires were installed. All of the typical hi-mileage Discovery problems have been addressed on this truck and it runs great. NOW FOR THE FUN STUFF!This past January, I had the stock suspension pulled and replaced with a brand new TerraFirma 3+ suspension (heavy-duty springs AND shocks). Please note that the original suspension is still in good working condition and will come with the truck. The new suspension was professionally installed by Lucky8 Land Rover (Clarence Center, NY). You can see the install video at http://www.youtube.com/user/fivespddisco#p/u/14/Rrt1FNhVDOs. This suspension upgrade came at a cost of $950.At the same time (January '11), I had the original 18" Land Rover Hurricane wheels (all five) refinished. They were professionally sandblasted, zinc coated (which protects against corrosion), powder coated, and baked in satin black (not gloss which shows every scratch, and not flat which are impossible to keep clean). They're in perfect shape. The coating on these wheels is BULLET-PROOF. Waaaaayyy tougher than anything I've ever seen. These were done at a cost of $750.Wrapping the wheels are true 33" tires - Hankook DynaPro ATM's (265/70/18). These were new when installed and now have approximately 10k miles on them (the matching spare has ZERO on it). The tires (all five matching) were $900 at Discount Tire Direct. FYI - the tires were mounted to the wheels and balanced using weights that go on the inside of the wheel meaning you can't see anything on the outside edge of the wheel. Super clean look.Between the lift and the tires, the truck now sits 5" higher than the stock ride height. Although I've only had the pleasure of taking it off-road once, this truck is PHENOMENAL and will put a stock Disco to shame. You can throw all as much snow, mud, etc. at this thing as you want - it's not getting stuck. This truck is EXTREMELY clean inside and out. All the local Rover guys say that this is the prettiest Disco around. I'm not bragging - just proud. It comes with the owner's manual, all weather (rubber) Land Rover floormats, and the two original Land Rover key fabs. This vehicle is located in Buffalo, NY and is being sold "as-is".
