Vehicle Detail
Offered for bid is a 1974 chrome bumper MGB/GT. Car requires a full restoration but is a solid candidate with much work done. Car was purchased in Florida in 1989 and has been in dry storage until a few months ago. The mileage of 35,000 miles appears to be genuine and mechanical restoration on the car had been started when I purchased it. The commission number of 328881G indicates it was one of the first 1974 models built as the 74 model year began with 328801 and was probably built in August or September of 1973. There were only 3,456 LHD GTs built for the North American market for the 1974 model year. Original color is Damask Red with Black interior. When I purchased the car the windscreen had been replaced, front suspension was rebuilt with king pins and bushings, new tyres although they are now over 20 years old, new brakes and dampers. Structurally the car is quite sound but will require floor pan repair/replacement and sill work. The floors are perforated especially towards the front of the foot wells but the jack points are solid, the battery boxes are good which is rare, and there is no rust in the doors, wheel arches or boot floor. From being outside, the front wings and bonnet have some surface rust but there is no rust through. As seen in the photos correct outer sills and new front and rear valences are included. Except for the sills and floor pans the car is very sound body wise. The motor turns free and has had the emissions equipment removed. No accident damage is evident and the wire wheels are in very good condition. Loss of storage, too many car projects and age are reasons for sale. I have owned MGs since the 60s and owned a 67 GT which was my favorite. Really hoped to put this one together but find that at my age I do not enjoy crawling underneath cars as much as I used to and my everyday drivers are over 25 years old. Any questions I will gladly answer. I could part the car out but it deserves better.
