My daughter does not like it….so its got to GO!!! This is a NO RESERVE auction for my 1984 VW Rabbit GTI with just 82,750 miles. (Mfg. date of 9/83) It had been garaged by the previous owner since 1991 (last registration tag). At that time (winter) the owner hit an icy surface and slid into a couple things. The front left and rear corners were damaged. As such, it was parked with nothing done to it since, other than collect a solid layer of dust until this past Spring. Bringing the GTI back to life: · Drained, flush and inspected the fuel tank (its clean inside) · Installed a new fuel pump · Blew out and flushed the fuel line · New fuel filter · Flushed the injector system · Installed new injector seals · New battery · New air filter · New Bosh spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor · Radiator/cooling system flush and new anti freeze · New wiper blades Body issues: · Straightened the left side of the upper radiator support. · Replaced the grill, left HL and turn signal · Bumped out the left rear quarter and rear hatch · Replaced the engine hood Pros: Clear Nevada title in my name. Starts easily, idles and runs pretty good, still in need of some adjustments. No smoke, ticks, knocks or leaks. I have driven it about 60 miles thus far, including some freeway miles at speed. The clutch and brakes work great with no present wear indications. Suspension is smooth and responsive. Its red interior is super clean; carpet, mats, panels, factory protective dash pad, etc. Dark tinted windows, sun roof, solid body…NO RUST!! Owners manual. Non-Smoker history. Lots of potential, minimal left to do. Challenges: Still some body repair and paint. Rear hatch damper does not hold. Tires are worn, (I did purchase a good used set that have not been mounted). It has recently developed a stalling issue when turning to the right, but fires right back up…not present going straight, left or parked. Not sure as to why. AC needs recharging (core was removed for front end repair), AC clutch does work,, but a wire needs to be repaired. The black paint has some thinning, exposing the white primer beneath. Windshield is stone shipped and cracked. Top edge of door panels have sun fade and a crack. Still some misc. trinket bug-a-boo’s. Overall: It is a solid, clean, classic GTI that would make for a great rally, commuter or young driver car. Also included is a service manual and a box of misc. items.
