Vehicle Detail
1976 BMW530i. 4 speed manual 133K miles AZ Emissions test passed on 11-1-11. Needs TLC Lots of parts replaced Still runs like a BMW should Some items replaced about 3,000 miles ago: Valve job. All new guides. All new exhaust and intake valves, new springs and valve steam seals Head surfaced. Head casting from 1982. Timing chain, guides, tensioner, sprockets Front main seal Timing cover gaskets Easy to get at core plugs were replaced Cylinder bores were worn about 0.005" near the top New water pump, thermostat, thermostat housing Fan blades, fan clutch Radiator Belts Many hoses New fuel pump and filters (3) injectors (6) injector plug connectors Rebuild smog pump. Installed alternator bearings and brushes Thermo-reactor manifold, check-valve. Clutch disk, pressure plate, throwout bearing, flywheel ground, new slave cylinder, new rear main Transmission output shaft flex joint New drive shaft center support bearing Drive shaft was painted and had stickers on it u-joints were tight- previous owner changed it New front McPherson struts Front end bushings New heater valve Exhaust pipe donut hangers Front wheel axle seals Gas tank de-gunked and painted by a gas tank shop New fuel lines New spark plugs and wires New battery around 5 months ago New tires about 1000 miles ago New brake pads about 4K miles ago Before I owned it- a new exhaust pipe and muffler were installed- based on Midas receipt and condition of the pipes. I think total- I have only driven the car probably 17K miles total And what is wrong...uh...well many things. Probably more than what is wrote here. I basically took it out my garage and it rotted in the sun. I used the car as a back up for my little Toyota truck. AC components are all there, never bothered to fix it Around (4) years ago- it did not have a crack in the dash- now it has many Transmission rear seal leaks a little- got to keep a eye on that. Engine doesn't burn or leak oil-yet. Top feed seal grommets in master cylinder leak a little so you must top off the reservoir about every 1.5 weeks The crank is setup for a needle roller pilot bearing but the transmission input shaft was for ball bearing pilot. Previous owner didn't use a bearing. No std. BMW bearing would fit. Maybe the transmission was changed out -who knows. When I did the clutch, I turned an Oil-lite bushing on a lathe and pressed that into the crank. Grease was added. After 6 years- it now has started to chatter sometimes when the clutch is disengaged, probably from lack of lube. Power steering - I add some fluid about every (3) months Probably the cars head should be torqued and the valves adjusted- not because it leaks water- but just for maintenance Right rear side passenger door will not open Interior was nice now too much AZ sun Sony CD changer & amp stopped working Tachometer worked well for years, now only once and awhile. A loose connection somewhere? I have a BMW shop manual, and handy Clymer manual and some other misc. parts- just for you. The car can be your backup car too. Or drop in a (5) speed from a 533i, 633i, 733i and your gas mileage will improve Or find a 535i engine with a matching 5 speed...and this car will move Maybe install the M5 engine and this car will fly Please take it off my hands. Give it a good home Fix it up or trade it in for something else At the junkyard I see these cars with 260K miles with blown engines- so they can go the distance if your into a little maintenance and keep the fluid in them Thanks for reading my story Have a great day. I have owned it since 12-22-87.
