Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1999.5 Audi A4 1.8T. The official year is a 1999, but they call it a 1999.5 because it has the outside of a 2000 (sportier look, one piece front zenon lighting, heated rear view mirrors). This is the front wheel drive model NOT the Quattro. The car has 79,487 miles on it. Some History - I got this car in 2003 when it had roughly 20k miles. I had it serviced at my local Audi dealership until about 2007 when I started going to my local garage. During each servicing I go it filled with synthetic oil and have always used premium gasoline (turbo engine). I am getting rid of the car because I don’t have time to make the needed repairs myself. I decided to sell it online instead of selling it to a garage or trading it in because I want to make sure that the next owner knows the history and its FULL list of issues (sorry for assuming all garage owners rip people off). Given the miles on the engine and the look of the car, I think that it would be a perfect vehicle for someone who has time to go to various junk yards, get cheap Audi parts and fix it up themselves. List of issues – - The biggest thing that needs to be done is the timing belt, which is primarily the reason why I decided to sell the vehicle. Once this is done the car should go another 70k easily. - It needs new rear breaks and rotors, the brakes and rotors on the front have less than 10k miles on them, so those should be fine. (when you go to break the peddle pushes back on your foot like anti-lock brakes in the snow, which is typical of what happens when you need new rear rotors). - It needs new CV joints on both sides – the joints click when I turn both left and right - The transmission has an extremely small hole in the bottom of it. It has had it for the past 30k miles, but because of the expense I just get the transmission fluid topped off every 5 months. The mechanic said that the leak is so slow that it doesn’t make a difference. - The tread on the tires is at about 50%. I have a few older tires in my garage if you want those too. - I had to get an ignition control module changed because one of the 4 valves wasn’t firing on time. I drove on this for about 35 miles – everything works perfect now. - It is hard to tell from the pictures but there are a bunch of scratches on the back bumper of the car from loading and unloading things. - The lower two fog light bulbs needs to be replaced. - The wiring to the radio is “loose” I’m not sure exactly what is wrong, but sometimes you need to bang on the side of the radio to get it to work. It happens less often in the summer months than the winter (weird, right?). - As you can see from the pictures, the entire carpet has been taken out. I had a stereo put in about a year ago and realized that when it rained a couple of times water was coming in through the firewall onto the floor under the driver’s side seat. Basically the rubber tubing Circuit City put in got old and cracked allowing water to come in through the firewall onto the carpet. Because of that and some mold spores that started to sprout, I removed the seats and pulled the entire carpet out. I can show you this when you pick the car up, but I have since filled the hole (where the wire used to be, but has since been taken out) with caulking to seal the leak. The white in the picture is talcum powder I used to make sure water wasn’t leaking in anymore. Obviously it didn’t cause any rust or anything and you can easily replace the carpet. - The lighter outlet only works for plugs - it doesn’t heat up the lighter thing for some reason. - This was a non smoker car - Sometimes the heat buttons get stuck because of soda and other condensation (bad Audi design putting the cup holder above them). When this happens I usually get an eye dropper and shoot in some water on the edges, which fixes it fairly quickly. - Garage kept for 2 of the 7 years I had it - You probably need a new battery since it hasn’t been driven in a while (moved to Boston and didn’t need a car). - Throughout the life of the car I have probably put about $7k into it for various repairs – Front brakes and rotors, the right side needed a new shock and struck, new alternator, ignition control module, ext. - The only damage is really to the silver door bumpers (not sure if that’s what they are called). I tried to include a picture to show you. - The airbag light recently came on – maybe from sitting? The car is not currently inspected. The legal thing to do is come pick it up with a flatbed. I don’t advise you do anything illegal, but this car is fine to drive if you were to just throw some other plates on it. Other than that everything is great, sorry if a scared most of you off. I guess you could look at it this way: you can buy a car off of Ebay where you think everything is OK and come to find out it’s a POS, or you can buy this at market value (because I am divulging each individual issue) and know exactly what you are getting. Again, this is a great option for someone that wants a fixer upper with low miles. The car looks great, it has the sports package, heated seats, 6 CD changer and tiptronic transmission. I accept PayPal, cash on delivery and cashiers checks. A $250 deposit is required at auction’s end and is non-refundable – I honestly don’t have time to have a person win and then decide they don’t want the car at a later date (again, this is why I list all problems) Look at my other items both bought and sold. I don’t rip people off. Bid with confidence. I live in Boston now so you have to pick the car up on a Saturday or Sunday (the car is in NJ). I will work with the buyer to arrange a pickup time for shipping, but the shipper must be prepaid by the buyer. I have all of the legal paperwork/ownership papers, ext.
