Vehicle Detail
RELISTED AT NO RESERVE. MUST SACRIFICE. Really still is a strong truck. Come drive it if you can! This was my grandfather's truck. I am the second owner. The engine is a 350 cid with 4-bolt mains and the stock Rochester Quadrajet Spreadbore carb. We just rebuilt it 6000 miles ago as stock as possible. Had to bore it 40 over. The cam is a Melling with just a hair more torque than stock. My dad, brother, and I did the rebuild ourselves with ARP fasteners, and we cut no corners. It also has the original high-output heads on it (I always called them camel-hump heads). All the numbers match. We did install an HEI distributor as well. The intake is also the original. It now has wrapped headers with true dual stainless exhaust. I have the original exhaust manifolds and heat shield that will be included. It doesn't overheat in traffic or at highway speeds. It has 4.11 positive traction in the rear, 4.10 in the front. It has the original turbo 350 transmission, that leaks a bit now but still works great. The front differential hasn't been worked hard in years. The u-joint looks to need replacing, but everything still works. The tranny is the only thing that leaks. I just bled the brakes about a month ago. The booster is starting to get a bit stiff, but still performing well. The frame is straight and still rock solid with some surface rust. The wheels are obviously not the original size. I have no idea where they went over the years. I think it looks good and performs well on these. The spare tire hanger is still underneath at the rear. These Dunlops are fabulous tires. Lots of tread left, but some dry rot beginning to show up. They are ten years old! The body and interior are in fair condition at best. These things were completely steel, and therefore subject to rusting. All body rust has been arrested to my knowledge. I have included pics of the worst spots. The cab does not leak at all and never has. There is no bondo on the vehicle anywhere. The heater and defroster worked perfect until a couple of months ago. I think it needs a new fan motor. The stock blinker went years ago. The aftermarket one works fine. The horn doesn't work. The windshield washer motor was removed years ago. The wipers work fine. The gas pedal came off, I still have it. The original brake pedal pad came off years ago. The aftermarket replacement is a pain to install so I live without it. I still have and will include the original buyers order, warranty imprint card, owners manual, emission control book, finance contract, and more paperwork. I drive this truck usually three times a week or so. No problems. I wanted to restore this truck. I even wanted to take it back to the original ochre paint, which is still visible on the inside of the glove compartment door. But I have a daughter that is just starting kindergarten, and with all the upcoming expenses over the next many years, I have decided to let it go. It would break my heart more to see it not taken care of than to see it leave. These longbeds are getting harder to find. This one is ripe for a restore. It would definitely be a truck worth having. As it sits it is at least as capable as any 3/4-ton produced today. I have grown up in this truck and have seen it do amazing things over the years. My grandfather didn't buy this truck off the lot. He ordered it specifically for his needs. It spent most of its life with a slide in camper on it and a bass boat behind it or a load of sand on it and a mortar mixer behind it! The rear bumper is from Brown Chevrolet in Alamo, TN because that's where his best friend worked, but it came from Bunn Cheverolet that used to be in Humboldt, TN but doesn't exist anymore. There's plenty more I could say and countless stories I could tell about this truck. Ask anything!
