After an initial clean-up and restoration which included changing all fluids/filters, head gasket & timing belt it turned back into a daily driver. Just over 25K miles have been put on the car since then including a cross country road trip from Vermont where the car came from where it averaged 44 MPG on the trip. Service records are available since 2010 & include most recently new front axles, exhaust from downpipe back & Michelin tires around approx 4000 miles ago. The car is in outstanding condition both inside and out. The exterior paint (Onx green metallic still shines like new w/no clearcoat peeling or blemishes) It does not appear as though any of the panels have ever been damaged or repainted! All trim pieces are still attached & unmolested. Has chrome ext window visors and original roof rail crossbars. The interior is also in amazing condition for a 30 yr old vehicle w/the only imperfection being one crack in the dash. All seats are covered in original tan pleather w/no burn holes, stains or seam tears. Carpets also w/no stains or tears. The car has a manual operated sunroof that both retracts & vents (works perfectly!). Was originally equipped w/AC although the compressor must have been removed by the original owner. As far as I know that is the only original equipment that is missing from the car. All interior functions & electrical systems work perfectly. Although the 1.6 ltr diesel motor was not a powerhouse @ 1588cc & 52HP it did boast 71lbs of torque and in the vehicles desrirtion called for a top speed of a whopping 85 MPH. With that being said however is it was not made for speed but mileage & dependability & at the time boasted the highest EPA fuel estimates of 36 city & 49 Hwy estimates. This one has the 4 spd fully synchronized transmission a 12 gal fuel tank and full sized spare kept neatly tucked away below the rear cargo area. Speaking of cargo area I should mention the spaciousness of the interior. The reported cargo volume is comparable to the new version of the Jetta wagon @ 51.6 cu ft.
