Vehicle Detail
Hi Streetrod and Gasser enthusiast, I recently set out to get me another Austin, I had one for a short time ten years ago and sold it back to the guy I bought it from after he reralized some serious "seller's remorse". I became a serious lover of these cars at that time. If you don't know them very well they are about the size of an Anglia, Prefect or even a PT Cruiser for that matter. The bodies are fashioned after a full size 40's fat fender sedan (humpback). They were imported from England after WWII, for more info check out www.austinworks.com and www.unglyducklingfarm.com . After begining my search I actually ended up with 2 cars, a 1948 and a 1950. The 1950 is original and much closer to my skill (or lack there of) level. The 1948 listed here has been road bound at one time. This is going to be "what I was told" info, so please keep that in mind. I was told it sits on a Datsun Truck frame and that the front end is from an Opel Kadet, I am also told it has a Ford 8.8 rearend but I don't see a tag and it is 4 lug, so you experts can email me on that. I covered it in black rattle can primer simply because it looks better i my garage that way. I have the compete grill set (big bucks, if you can find them) uppers and lowers, interior window moldings, trafficators, and all of the glass. Someone started to install power windows, the wiring is still in the box to complete, all door handles inners and outers are included, as is the stainless you see on the belt line. The front sheet metal (dog house) has been tack welded together, there is no hinge system of any kind. Someone molded in the rerar fenders as well, and did a nice job putting a radius on the wheel openings, major bucks to have that done. That motor is a V6 (Casting # 471594 one site says it's a 80-84 229cid), I have headers, aluminum intake, and it has (what I'm told) is a TH350 bolted to it. I know nothing about these pieces, they are just laying in there, not bolted, but they go too. There is no interior or seats, and it looks as though some quality floor work has been done. Shipping is buyer's issue, I can and will help load. Delivery for a fee could be possible and personal inspection prior to auction end is strongly encouraged, just call me (John) at 765-99four-0four81. If you're laughing at my paper headlights and grill, it's cool, so did my wife. I just couldn't stand looking at the gaping holes in the face of the car, with the grill work (real, not paper) does come the headlight buckets and trim rings. It's not a good idea having that grill work installed if you're banging around the garage, if you break one of those lower grills, you're in deep doggy dohicky. So if you are one of those guys, or gals, that just doesn't want another Chebby, Ford, or early Walter P. Chrysler mobile, consider coming to the Austin side of things. Cute, Cozzy. and BAD-Arse when toting a V8. And if you just can't see dropping $10,000 on an Anglia in this condition, welcome to reality. I have a clear title in hand. One of the pics you see is the Austin Prostreet I had in 2000, your's could be this cool or even cooler. Bid to win.....Feel free to AX me any questions you like, I will respond ASAP. Thanks for looking/bidding and good luck. To see more on these cool cars Google "Austin A40", and YouTube it as well. On Oct-27-11 at 12:27:50 PDT, seller added the following information:Oh, and as you can see by the pics, I simply don't have the room in my garage to begin the teardown and streetrodding of the original 1950 Austin with 2 of them in there. Plus the cash will come in handy for that build. Someone asked me if I would take $7,500 for the pair, I said catch me on a weak day and possibly. On Oct-31-11 at 18:23:11 PDT, seller added the following information: Ok Racers and Rodders, "BUY IT NOW" reduced from $2500 to $1995 and reserve lowered to something south of that. Time to step it up if you're going to buy it and have it rock'n by late spring or early summer. Let's go!!!
