Vehicle Detail

GREETINGS DATSUN FANS!! Painfully.. My rebuilt 1970 240Z is up for sale. I started this project in 2004. I searched California relentlessly, to find an early 70 with a body that was worthy of rebuilding.. Original factory color was also important to me. I finally found this car, built in 3/70 car #02115, factory 901, silver. Clean original floors throughout, no major previous accidents. Clean title. My goal, was to recreate a "factory" fresh early 240Z. Not in a concourse way, as I wanted an extremely nice driver with performance and "stock" appearance. I dont like body kits, custom body work or other things often seen on these cars. A side from aftermarket wheels, I wanted to retain the true look of an early Z. I kept all of the "series one" parts that are unique to this car untouched. I had all of the hardware re-cad plated.. No aftermarket bolts with the wrong look and socket size on this car, this was tedious and expensive. The car came with original numbers matching motor, this is included in the sale (less the carbs/intake). 3 years later, a lot of time and money spent, I completed it.. I immediately drove it on a 2500 mile coastal trip, worked out a few bugs along the way, and had a great time. Ive now put over 10,000 miles on it since completion. Here is a breakdown of most of the major work and upgrades I performed on this car. Body and Paint: Car was soda blasted. There was some minor rust to deal with in the common areas. The rear hatch, battery tray and lower dog-leg panels had the common rust isolated in these areas. The patch panel under the battery was done unsatisfactory as far as appearance. Only the metal directly under the tray was replaced. Inner fenders, entire floors are factory solid, with no pin holes, soft spots or repairs. The bottom of the floors were sprayed with paint with the exception of the spare tire well.. It was still too clean to touch! All panels were removed, glass and every bolt on part removed and cataloged. The car entire car was resprayed with the exception of the interior floors, and luggage shelf/spare tire well. It was blocked out well and polished to a mirror finish. It looks amazing. No, it is not perfect. I managed to damage the hood slightly before installing it.. I installed it, (not a perfect alignment) and had planned on repainting it. The car looks beautiful, and people often ask "who painted it"? Being silver, it shows flaws more than color.. So upon close inspection in certain lighting conditions you can detect some sand scratches, some shrinkage, etc.. I can usually find similar defects in any paint job.. Again its a nice $5,000 repaint, not a $15,000 show paint job. Bumpers were re-chromed, 3 times to get it right.. all rubber/holes deleted. Mechanically: Motor is an L28, flat top piston (f54 block) with a worked e88 head. I dont know a lot of internal specifics of the motor, as it was in a car I had previous.. It revs and pulls hard.. Smokes a little on occasion. 10.5:1 compression ratio. Light weight 70 Z flywheel. Last compression test, all cylinders were 185-205. Premium fuel only. This car is not like driving a "stock" Z. I have two other Z's with L28 motors and this one is much more impressive. "Z Therapy" 4-screw carbs with good choke cable and K&N air filters, bolted to a polished N36 intake. Rebuilt ZX electronic ign distributor, I have not got the tachometer working with this upgrade yet. Late ZX wide ratio 5spd, rebuilt locally, new synchros and bearings. R200 rear diff with 4:11 gearing (85-86 datsun 200sx turbo), tough one to find.. Gets off the line quick! Ceramic coated headers with MSA 2.5 premium exhaust (sounds awesome) MSA 4 row radiator All bolt on engine bay parts have been replaced ie.. water pump, alternator, starter, hoses etc. SUSPENSION: Every single suspension component was removed, media blasted, POR 15 coated and new poly bushings inserted.. Every one, including the rear control arms (not easy). Eibach progressive springs with KYB inserts. All new brake components, front end parts, including NOS rack boots on original rack, wheel bearings etc. I retained all the factory bolts and hardware throughout, had them stripped and re-cad plated, including hydraulic lines.. expensive and tedious. Rims and Tires.. Staggered. Rear wheels are 16x8" with a 225/50 Dunlop ZR1 tire, no rubbing. Fenders are not rolled. Fronts are a 16x7". If preferred, I have a set of 5 spoke silver 17" wheels that use an adapter to bolt on, with nice BFG tires.. Your choice. Interior: New seat covers, dash cover, correct vinyl, carpet kit (has some adhesive on parts, see pics) re-worked correct console with ash tray. All lights work, including reverse, interior map and nos overhead. Factory gauges with working quartz (upgrade) clock. Rebuilt heater core, heater valve, hoses, working factory stereo and antennae, hidden aftermarket stereo with I-pod hook up at ashtray. New rubber all around, including NOS door gaskets and exterior chrome squeegy strip. NOS door sill plates and thresholds. *NOTE* Original series one steering wheel will be installed on the car. The aftermarket one does NOT come with it. The list goes on.. Its a nice car. Needs a few small details worked out. As with any car that has had this much restoration work, I cant recall every single thing Ive done and every defect. Its 41 years old, and is a beauty... Please ask any and all questions BEFORE bidding.. I am available and willing to pick you up at the airport in THIS car for you to see it, if you like. Or, meet with someone in the area for an inspection. Additionally, if there is something on the car you want photographed, ASK.. and you will receive. I can also be available to do a "walk-around" over the phone. $500 paypal deposit is due with 24hrs and balance is due within 5 days via bank wire or cash in person. Title is clear and in my name, car is currently registered and insured in the state of Utah, and the custom plates do not come with it.
