Vehicle Detail

1987 BMW 535IS This vehicle is an all-original EXTREMELELY RARE, BEAUTIFUL,Collector's Car that has been well maintained and would make an easy show car, race car, or easy full restoration project. This car simply needs some TLC to be a great investment!! Any BMW enthusiasts knows the value of this rare car and how this vehicle will continue to appreciate in values. I showed this vehicle in a few car shows this summer and it gets a lot of attention. The car runs great and is extremely fast, GREAT ON GAS. It only needs a few minor issues addressed that I outline below to be maximized. This car should be purchased by a BMW enthusiast who knows the history, value, and quirks of this car. I encourage any bidder to come take a look at the car before bidding to get comfortable with the bid. Again, this car is not a new car and like most BMWs of this era has many quirks that I outline below. If you are looking for a like-new or perfect 1987 BMW 535IS, this is not it. The car still has the original paint that is in decent condition that is commensurate with the age of the vehicle. THE SIX DIGIT ODOMETER AND AUTOCHECK REPORT SHOWS THE MILEAGE HISTORY OF THIS CAR at slightly over 155,000!!! I have all the maintenance documents from 2003. The title to this vehicle is clear! The only major bug with this car is that when initially started and driven, it operates in safe mode until warm. What this means is that it is not as responsive in first gear until it gets warm (until driven about ½ mile). Once warm, the car runs fine and has great power. The previous owner drove the car like this for about 5 years and never had this issue checked out. When I purchased the car, my BMW mechanic stated that it is probably something simple like corrosion on a wiring harness. Because of the age of the vehicle, his newer equipment cannot communicate with the older system of this 535IS. I was advised to continue to drive the vehicle and not be alarmed about this issue. I have driven the car to car shows, the airport, and work without issue. I purchased this vehicle as a restoration project and weekend driver. The owner I purchased this car from is a BMW enthusiast who maintained this vehicle meticulously and only sold the car to me after he purchased a new car. The car comes with factory sport kit, rear spoiler, factory sport Ricaro seats, sunroof, Sport Wheels, sport exhaust, performance exhaust tip, on-board computer. This car has been driven sparingly for years and was stored in covered storage. The vehicle has never been wrecked!! The mileage on the vehicle is original at 155,000. I still drive this vehicle occasionally, so it may have a few miles over 155,000 when it is purchased. The engine and transmission are original and do not have any modifications. The 3.5 liter engine comes with fuel injection and is extremely strong and does not smoke or burn oil. My plan was to fully restore the vehicle over a few years and finish the project with a show-quality paint job. The wheels on the car are in great condition and are from my newer 5-series BMW. The tires are performance series Potenza tires that have about 30% uneven tread remaining, but will need to be replaced since they are too heavy for the front end and cause the vehicle to shake at 60mph. One of the tires also has a sidewall plug repair which is not common. The vehicle had the complete front end rebuilt a few years back, so with new tires, it will ride normally. The interior is in excellent condition for a classic car that is over twenty years old. The only blemishes are a few cracks in the dash, a tear in the headliner fabric on the driver’s side, a loose pillar cover on driver's side, one quarter-sized tear in the headliner above the DS seat and a tear in the headiner above the right rear seat, and rashing and tears in the seats. The front seats will need to be recovered, but it will be well worth the expense as they are factory multi-position power Ricaro seats. The bumpers on the vehicle are in excellent condition and have some minor rashing and fading. The PS Rear bumper is off-center a bit and looks like it was probably slightly bumped in the past. The paint on the right front fender is starting to fade a bit due to the sun. The floor pans on the vehicle are solid without rust. There is no rust in the wheel wells or door jambs. The rear seat is in decent condition, but has one rips on the top that is a result of aging and sun damage. I have installed new sport seat covers on the front seats to help protect them and add to aesthetic appeal. The steering wheel is the original BMW competition steering wheel that has a vinyl wrap around it. The door panels are original and in excellent condition, but the dash does have about four cracks in it that are from a factory flaw in the design since most 1980s BMWs I have seen have the same tears. There are very inexpensive dash covers that can be purchased for about $200. The carpet has minor blemishes that are commensurate with the age of the vehicle. All of the seat belts, seat belt loops are present and are in good condition. The car has power windows that work fine. The doors open and shut like new! The radio is an aftermarket Alpine AM/FM/CD radio and works fine. The speakers are older and do not have the capacity to maximiw the radio. The original power antenna works fine The air conditioning and heater on the car works. The blower fan is loud at times and the new owner may want to replace it with another blower fan and motor that will be included in the sale. The glass on the vehicle is in great condition and has no breaks or cracks The cargo area is in great condition and has the original trunk tool pack, jack and spare tire. The vehicle has the original paint and I would rate it at a 6 out of ten. There is one blemish along the DS front door by the mouldling that is a crease or crimple from where the moulding contacted the fender. The the front hood has some very minor dings in it that appear to be from falling debris or hail. The front and rear BMW emblem are in great shape. The factory on-board computer works well. The RPM gauge is not working and the overhead display brake light stays on, but there is nothing wrong with the brake system. The BMW mechanic found no issues with the brake system and recommended simply removing the bulb from the light, but I will leave that up to the new owner. The front shocks brakes on the car were replaced recently, but the rear shocks need to be replaced. The vehicle runs extremely well, but I would recommend the vehicle get a tune-up prior to a lengthy drive. The headlights and tail lights work fine, but I cannot get the driving/fog auxillary lights to work. I have not been able to get the rear defroster or interior vanity lights to work either. My intent is to represent this vehicle well in my description in hope that a new owner will give this car the due love that it needs. As with all older vehicles, vehicle lovers may have different perspectives on the condition of vehicles. I encourage any interested bidder to inspect the vehicle in-person before bidding or buying.
