Vehicle Detail
Up for Auction--My 1970 Mercedes-Benz Unimog 406. 4WD with factory selectable air-locker differentials front and rear. 5.7 Liter In-Line 6-Cylinder Diesel Motor. 41" Michelin Ag Tires with 80-90% Tread. Cascade and SuperCrawler Gear Boxes give 24 forward and 8 reverse speeds. Three Point Hitch and Front/Rear 2-Speed PTO allows use of any standard agricultural implement. Dump Bed tips to either side and the rear, and the sides fold down independently, or can be removed for use as a flatbed. Schaeff Front Loader with down pressure. On-Board Air Compressor. New Battery. New High Pressure power-steering hose. New front axle (CV) joint and king pins on passenger side. I have owned this unit for about ten years, and have used it to bushhog fields, scrape driveways, grade yards, move snow, till gardens, and unstick smaller tractors, among other things. I have since moved to a smaller farm, and need to downsize, so my 'Mog needs to go too. It is fully functional, and ready to perform whatever task you throw at it. I wouldn't drive it on the road at this point, only because one of the front brakes needs repair, and I haven't kept up with the little things like lights, wipers, etc. It is fine for field use, but I wouldn't want to run over a Prius on the street. Typical hydraulic and other leaks for a machine of this age, and the hydraulic pump is probably due for a new belt, since it got soaked by the leaking PS hose (which was replaced, as noted above). It will go anywhere, and do anything, and it will be sorely missed, but I can't justify keeping it with the small acreage I now have. Usual auction rules apply (I always hate this part, but have found it necessary): I am happy to answer any questions, and to make the truck available for inspection, but please address that before bidding. If you win the auction, you own this truck, and are responsible for the purchase price. Truck is sold "AS IS", with no warranties express or implied. I can assist with coordinating shipping on this end, if you line up a reputatable shipper. Buyer is responsible for arranging shipping within a reasonable time, and failure to do so gives me the right to cancel the sale, forfeit the deposit, and re-list the truck. Ok, with that out of the way, happy bidding, and thanks for your interest! On Oct-10-11 at 05:19:11 PDT, seller added the following information: Thanks for the overwhelming interest in this truck. A number of people have said they want to fix the front brake and drive this truck 200, 300, even 500 miles at close of auction. I would highly discourage that, and would strongly suggest lining up a trailer, unless you are within a few counties away from Bedford, Virginia, and only if you are headed to flatter territory. The truck is set up for agricultural use, meaning field use, and local trips for mulch, gravel, etc., not interstate travel. The top safe speed with the loader attached is 25MPH, and 50MPH without it, and the ag tires are not happy going at top speed for that long. Mercedes saw fit to include a buzzer that will go off between 45 and 50 MPH. And that's not taking into account the steep hills around here, which will require using lower gears to climb, and lower speeds. You could certainly drop the loader, fix the brake, switch to a more road-friendly tire, and toodle on down the road all day long terrorizing Hummers as you go, but you need to do that after you get it home. I also cannot allow the winning bidder to attempt brake repairs here--you need to do that in your own shop. In short, line up your shipper first--then bid to win. I also forgot to mention that the 'Mog is for sale locally, and I reserve the right to end the auction any time for any reason. Thanks again, all.On Oct-11-11 at 11:37:57 PDT, seller added the following information:Just noticed that this listing shows that I am a dealer--for the record, that is incorrect. This is my personal vehicle, and I'm not a dealer. Also noticed that there is another Unimog "406" being listed. Please note that, at least from the pictures, that the other vehicle appears to be a "416", which is a longer wheelbase version, not the 90" wheelbase 406. Not that there's anything wrong with the 416 if that's what you want--just make sure you're comparing similar vehicles. Thanks!
