Vehicle Detail

Up For Auction WITH MUCH LOWERED RESERVE: A piece of automotive and American history, a 1957 International Harvester S-120, 3/4 Ton, 4x4 (Factory) Panel Truck. Factory PTO Winch, made by Ramsey. Body was specially outfitted as a rescue vehicle for the Civil Defense Department, in case of nuclear war or natural disaster, and originally stationed in Upstate New York. There is a picture of an almost identical truck (just 2WD) in full Civil Defense mode, at the following link: http://www.civildefensemuseum.com/rescueserv/index.html. 28,000 original, actual miles (I'm still driving it, so that could go up slightly), and the clear Virginia title reflects that. The log book that comes with it has records of maintenance from 1969 through 2006, as well as early history, such as assisting at a drowning, winching a VW out of a snow drift, etc. The records show regular oil changes, gas tank reseal, clutch replacement, etc. Mechanically excellent (heck, it's barely broken in)--it will travel at highway speeds without issue. I have used it as a farm vehicle, running to the dump, feed store, etc. It could use some radiator repairs, but other than that, it's pretty reliable, and always starts and goes. Bad news is that the body has some major rot, though the floors are solid. All repairable, and this would be a great candidate for a body resto, or could be driven as is indefinitely. Comes with log book from when it was in service, factory line-set ticket (build sheet), and factory special paint schematic for the Civil Defense department (even the undercarriage is painted blue). I really hate to see it go, but I have too many other projects in front of this one, and need to make room. Usual auction rules apply: Vehicle is sold "AS IS", no warranties expressed or implied. I'm happy to answer any and all questions, but please ask them before bidding--the winning bidder becomes the owner of this truck. Buyer responsible for shipping within a reasonable time of auction close. Thanks for looking, and happy bidding!
