Vehicle Detail

I am selling my 1985 Mercedes-Benz 300D turbo. I bought this car last spring with the intention of replacing my 1983 300SD. I always liked the W123 body style better than the W126, but in the end decided to keep both. However, I just bought a new Jetta TDI and once again I am out of indoor storage, so this one is going to have to go. A detailed description of this car is as follows: General I am the second owner of this car. It was purchased new in 1985 in Alexandria, La. and spent it's life in the south until I had it shipped here. The miles are actual and the title reads as such. I have some service records for the car which consist mostly of oil change records with a few miscellaneous repairs. I am fairly knowledgable about these cars and have owned several. This is one of the better driving ones I've had. It was also never exposed to road salt, so the body is in exceptional condition, and it was garaged, so the interior is also very nice. And no, it wasn't in New Orleans. Mechanical No leaks. It has been parked on a concrete floor since I've owned it and the motor, trans, diff etc. are clean and dry. It starts instantly on the first try even if it sits for weeks. It has a new battery, fuel filters have both been changed. All 4 belts are new along with questionable cooling hoses changed. Injector return lines also replaced. Brake pads are about 60% and there is no rotor shimmy or pulsation. Lube, oil, filter about 700 miles ago. Tires have about 4,000 miles on them. Oil pressure is good and holds about 1.5-1.7 bars at hot idle. Transmission goes immediately into gear and shifts at the proper points with no flaring. Has an abrupt 3rd to 2nd downshift in the first 5-10 minutes of operation, after which it's gone. There are no driveline vibrations or unusual noises or sounds. The rear CV boots are intact with some checking, but they don't leak or make noise. The cooling system works correctly and holds pressure. It doesn't leak or use any coolant, oil, power steering or transmission fluid. The steering wheel is centered and the car doesn't pull left or right when driving or braking. This a non catalyst, non trap-ox car. The exhaust is original, intact and quiet. It gets between 24-29 MPG because 1985 (only) had better road gears. Interior It's nearly perfect - the nicest I've seen. The dash has no cracks, the carpets are clean and not matted down. All seating is in excellent condition and the seats "sit high". The springs in the seats are excellent and don't squash down like most. All 4 door panels are excellent as is the headliner with no fading. the Zebrano wood is all intact and in good condition. The piece above the heat/ A/C controls is slightly curled. The heater works correctly. The A/C does not blow cold. I don't know why, but it doesn't. The speedometer, odometer and trip odometer all function correctly. The fuel, oil pressure, clock and temp gauges work correctly. The tach doesn't work. The cruise control works. The radio, wipers and power antenna work. The sunvisor over the driver is intact and the lighted mirror works. The sunvisor on the passenger is intact, but it is missing the cover for the mirror. All interior lights, light switches etc work correctly. The LF window, RF window and RR window function properly. The LR doesn't move when the switch is activated. The rear dash is not discolored or faded. The door lock actuators all work when the car is running, but not when it is off. The sunroof opens and closes properly. The motor shuts off immediatly when the car is turned off. Body/Paint The paint on this car is about 80% original. As such it has some light scratches, some minor chips and some fine cracking associated with the lighter paint pigments Mercedes used in the 1980's. It is still glossy and you have to be very close to the vehicle to notice. Between the trunk and the rear window on the passenger side only there is a body repair made as a result of the rear window seal leaking. This allowed water to collect and caused a very small area of rust that was repaired years ago. The paint has blistered in this spot. I have circled it in pictures because it otherwise couldn't be seen. This is the only spot on the car like it. All doors, fenders, rear quarters, rockers, floor pans, trunk are 100% original and rust free. The rear window gasket on W123's was the culprit as many were defective and unfortunatly this was the result. This car has never been in an accident, all panels, doors, trunk, hood etc line up and open and close correctly. There is a crease in the hood behind the ornament that can't been seen in pictures and I didn't see it until I waxed it, but it is there and the hood insulation pad is starting to come apart in places. All glass, chrome, moldings etc are excellent. The windshield has a small rock chip and minor pitting. There is no delamination on any of the glass. This car was owned by two older adults and does not have the wear associated with cars used for family transportation. Summary It is a far nicer car than most, but it's not perfect. The description is a honest one - far more accurate than the one given to me. I own 9 cars and if I had room for one more inside I would keep it. But winter is coming and I need to get plows, trucks and tractors in and out without moving a bunch of vehicles to do it. The reserve is reasonable and less than half of what I paid for it. It's not for sale elsewhere. It won't be sold to anyone other than the highest bidder at auctions end. If you do not have the cash on hand to pay for it, please don't bid. If you are not serious about owning this car, don't bid. Call me if you have any questions. I have a limited amount of time that I can spend on the phone. I don't want any emails because I can't type and thankfully I am not near a computer most of the week. I want to be paid in full within 5 days of the auctions end by wire transfer preferably. I would accept a cashiers check, but I would hold the car and the title until it clears my bank and yours. NO NEGATIVE FEEDBACK BIDDERS.NO ZEROS WITHOUT A CALL PLEASE. I have all the books, owners manuals, tool kit, spare and jack. My name is Pete. Phone: 260-310-4207. Thanks
