Very reluctantly, I am now listing for sale this fantastic 1988 BMW M6. I recently purchased it with the intent to keep it as a weekend driver, but now the reality of my garage space has set in. First off, let me just say that this car is in outstanding condition. I’ve had a number of BMWs, and have been a BMW car club member for over 15 years. My current driver is 2002 M5, and I’ve had several other M cars, including a 1988 M5, which shares the same engine as this M6. I am the third owner of this car, and the prior two owners have lovingly cared for it. The car only has approximately 73,300 miles (though the carfax report says 85,000). It's really 73,300 because the prior owner when re-registering it didn't remember the actual mileage. Aside from some minor rock chips on the nose and lower front air dam, the paint looks great. Mechanically, it needs nothing. Brakes are great. Tires have lots of tread. Stainless steel exhaust is near new (and has a great throaty, but not obnoxious sound). Interstate battery is less than 2 years old. All electronics work, including all power seat functions—that means the power headrests too. (Even the memory seats function, pretty amazing in a 23 year old car, works.) A/C is good; heat too. Clutch and transmission are excellent. As you can see from the pictures, all of the check control lights work, but are off when the car is running. The original TRX rims have been replaced with BMW style 5 rims from an E39 sport package. Original radio works too, but I can’t confirm the cd changer works because the cd magazine is missing. The car doesn't appear to have ever been smoked in. The interior leather is stain-free, rip free, and looks near perfect; it even still smells great. I replaced the shift knob with a new factory one from an E46 M3 that lights up when the lights are on. And of course, the engine pulls like a team of Clydesdales through the whole rpm range, as it should. I would be happy to connect you with my mechanic who recently went over the car, and was amazed at its condition if that is something you would like to do. I am a perfectionist, however, and the car is not ready to win a concours as my 1988 M5 did. Still, this M6, even as it is currently, likely blows away most every other E24 M6 out there. So, some things you would see upon an inspection. The lower front air dam has been repainted. The original floor mats are pretty much shot, though I’ve not tried to clean them yet. A prior owner tried to glue the part of the floor mat down where it sits on the dead pedal, and so there some glue residue on the dead pedal plastic. (You can see that in one of the pictures. It may come off, but I've not tried hard yet.) Finally, the rims are in very good, but not brand new condition. There is no curb rash, but even though you can't see it in the pictures, in some spots the clear coat is starting to come off. That’s it as far as I can tell. Very, very minor considering the car’s age. I’ve bought and sold a handful of cars on ebay, and always have had very good experiences. I am certain the buyer of this car will be very pleased, and if not, I will make every effort to make it right. I will take a $500 deposit via paypal with the balance to be paid by certified check.
